NEWS - ARCHIVE 2016-2019

Here you can read the archived news items from Pétanque Union Bois le Duc from 2016, ‑ the year in which our association was founded ‑, up to and including 2019.

December 24, 2016 - The daily board of Pétanque Union Bois le Duc wishes you happy holidays!

December 20, 2016 - Today our Chairman visited Wonen & Welzijn to seal their sponsorship together with Director Lennart Veldhuijzen. This happened not only with a pen but of course with some nice pastry also!

December 13, 2016 - Today our Chairman Antoon van Mil received a telephone call from Lennart Veldhuijzen, Director at Wonen & Welzijn from the town of Ammerzoden. Wonen & Welzijn is willing to sponsor our union for the next 3 years. Fantastic news!

Wonen & Welzijn is a regional oriented financial service provider and real estate broker with advisors near your home. A personal approach and a clear advice are highly valued. We believe that every financial product you buy needs our greatest care and attention. We are founded in 2003 and located in the town of Ammerzoden. Wonen & Welzijn gives advice in all financial products and guides you while buying and selling your property.

Wonen & Welzijn has been familiar with the regional pétanque scene for more than 20 years. Before the company sponsored Pétanque Union L’Ammerzo from the town of Ammerzoden, Pétanque Union Hatalle from the town of Hedel and Pétanque Union Vualli from the village of Well (Gld.).

November 23, 2016 - Today’s news put a small damper on things… Due to a lack of volunteers the daily board of S.S.V.O.H. was forced to withdraw their commitment made concerning the usage of their accommodation. A full activities calendar and an already existing shortage of volunteers made it impossible to guarantee the availability of volunteers on Wednesday evenings and Saturday afternoons (and thus the availability of the accommodation), even if the volunteers would be paid. The daily board of S.S.V.O.H. decided to go for quality instead of bad agreements which would result in irregular opening days of the pétanque union. A clear and sensible explanation that daily board of Pétanque Union Bois le Duc can understand and respect. As for so many unions the availability and willingness of the volunteers determines its success.

October 27, 2016 - Today our union had its first ‘media exposure’ in the regional newspaper “Brabants Dagblad” thanks to Marianne Jans. It is too bad that at the editorial office they do not know the difference between playing cards made of paper and jeu de boules made of steel… “Bridge???” Let’s just forget about it and hope that the ‘ultimate goal’ (= playing an international pétanque tournament on the market square called ‘Parade’) nevertheless will come true. By the way, Marianne did her utmost best and can’t be blamed for this rather strange mistake.

Hopefully the ‘ultimate goal’ isn’t ‘a bridge too far’!

October 3, 2016 - In the 1st official meeting with our daily board the members of the daily board of S.S.V.O.H. confirmed that their union will accommodate Pétanque Union Bois le Duc. Further arrangements have to be made but we are now really on our way!

July 6, 2016 - Today was the day that it all started … Today, a new pétanque union in the city of 's-Hertogenbosch was established by the hand of Notary Mr. Thijs Kampschöer, Chairman Antoon van Mil, Secretary Ruud Van Hintum and Treasurer Dennis Pol: Pétanque Union Bois le Duc now officially is a fact! 😊

After signing the Memorandum of Association the board celebrated this special moment at Corrie van Mil - de Looijer's home in Ammerzoden with a nice evening meal (many thanks!).

June 28, 2016 - Where exactly lies the future accommodation of our union? That is hard to clarify and needs a little more explanation which hopefully brings more clarity.

In ’s-Hertogenbosch is a cultural center called De Verkadefabriek which is situated at the Boschdijkstraat 45. On the other side of the street is the entrance to the marshalling yard of Strukton Rail. After entering the main gate (which is always open) you turn to the left and enter the road directly beside the railway tracks. You then drive towards the central station and automatically end op at clubhouse ‘t Kikkertje.

June 27, 2016 - The date of establishment has been set! On Wednesday afternoon July 6, 2016 at 04:00 PM the future board members are expected at Mr. Thijs Kampschöer in the town of Ammerzoden for the official establishment of Pétanque Union Bois le Duc, by signing the Memorandum of Association which then will be confirmed by the notary.

May, 2016 - Again Notary Mr. Thijs Kampschöer is prepared to establish yet another pétanque union for free. Before he sponsored the establishment of Pétanque Union Hatalle from the town of Hedel (2007), the establishment of Pétanque Union Vualli from the town of Well (Gld.) (2012) and now he will establish Pétanque Union Bois le Duc in the city of ’s-Hertogenbosch (2016).

May, 2016 - A union isn’t a union without a (good) logo. Henk Zeitzen, member of the 1st team of Pétanque Union ’t Dupke from the town of Sint-Michielsgestel, offered to design a logo for Pétanque Union Bois le Duc. He did so free of charge and with an astonishing result! A logo based on what is called ‘the dragon’s fountain’, a historical fountain directly situated in front of the central station of the city of ’s‑Hertogenbosch.

Just like, for example the city of The Hague, the city of ’s-Hertogenbosch has a double name. 's‑Gravenhage is an alternative reference for the older city of The Hague and is made up after the example of the city of ‘s-Hertogenbosch. The name Den Bosch is older than the name 's‑Hertogenbosch.

In other languages the city of 's-Hertogenbosch is referred to with a translation of its name: in French it is called ‘Bois le Duc’, in Italian ‘Boscoducale’, in Spanish ‘Bolduque’ and in German it is called ‘Herzogenbusch’. The latin name for the city is ‘Silva Ducis’ of ‘Buscum Ducis’. Because the sport ‘pétanque’ is associated with France the name ‘Bois le Duc’ has been chosen.

April, 2016 - Ruud van Hintum (31 years) and Dennis Pol (34 years), both residents of the city of ’s‑Hertogenbosch and both experienced players, join the daily board (in creation). Van Hintum will be the union’s Secretary and Dennis Pol will be the union’s Treasurer.

Chairman Antoon van Mil has contacted the daily board of the Sports & Recreational Union of the Dutch Railways (S.S.V.O.H.) in the city of ’s-Hertogenbosch. The union (established in 1946) has a very nice accommodation called ’t Kikkertje (meaning: ‘the frog’) which is situated directly beside the railway tracks, just outside the central station of the city of ’s-Hertogenbosch. Van Mil was familiar with this location due to his former occupation in which he used to work for the Dutch Railway Company. He therefore knew of the existence of 6 fully equiped pétanque playing fields, situated underneath and protected by high trees.

On Sundays there’s already some recreational pétanque going on the playing fields of the accommodation of S.S.V.O.H. After consultation with the daily board of S.S.V.O.H. Pétanque Union Bois le Duc is welcome to play at their accommodation on Wednesday evenings and Saturday afternoons.

April, 2016 - “That’s strange, there isn’t an official boules or pétanque union in the city of ‘s‑Hertogenbosch,” Antoon van Mil (39 years old) born in Ammerzoden and living in Well (Gld.) must have thought, “How can this be, in one of The Netherlands’ largest cities!” This had to change and so the initiative to establish the 1st official pétanque union in the city of ’s-Hertogenbosch was taken. The goal of the union is to put the sport ‘pétanque’ on the map in the city of ’s‑Hertogenbosch while sailing under the flag of the Dutch Pétanque Association (NJBB) to finally realize an own, professional accommodation with a canteen, in- and outdoor playing fields as a permanent residence for the union.

Instigator Antoon van Mil (Chairman).

It is not the first time that Van Mil establishes a union. In 2007 he was the instigator of Pétanque Union Hatalle in the town of Hedel together with Theo van Mil and Corrie van Mil - de Looijer. Late 2012 he established Pétanque Union Vualli in the town of Well (Gld.) together with Gosina Versfeld - van Baast en Corrie van Mil - de Looijer, only to accommodate the famous “Castle of Well tournament” for doubles. After the lustrum edition of this tournament in 2015, Pétanque Union Vualli ceased to exist. The “Castle of Well tournament” is planned by Van Mil in the year 2020, the union to accommodate the tournament is not yet known.

Within the Dutch pétanque scene Van Mil isn’t a stranger. On behalf of Pétanque Union L’Ammerzo from the town of Ammerzoden he was the organizer of dozens of tournaments from 2001 up and untill 2005 among which 4 international and heavily sponsored two-day money tournaments. As of 2015 he is the Tournament Commissioner of Pétanque Union ’t Dupke from the town of Sint-Michielsgestel for which he also plays in the 2nd team in the 3rd division of the National Pétanque Competition (N.P.C.).
