December 14, 2025 - The ‘Cold hands tournament’ has become an annual tradition at Pétanque Union Bois le Duc in ‘s-Hertogenbosch. The primary goal of this event is to bring association members together during the dark winter months, while enjoying a cup of snert (pea soup) with bread. Originally conceived by association member Marco Tijl, this event has been an integral part of the association’s calendar since 2022, and this year marked its fourth edition!

Although the association has temporary indoor accommodation consisting of two tent halls, the tournament was played outside, in all weathers, to live up to its name. It is precisely the elements that make the tournament so challenging, and the cold makes the warm snert taste even better.

Four matches were played on time. Each round, players had different team mates and faced different opponents. Only one player managed to win all matches, and that was Elly Smit (4 wins, 20 points). Niek Buskop and René Hilhorst won three matches and finished in second and third place respectively.

Participating is more important than winning, as was evident from the many stories that came up during the joint lunch break. Apart from the sporting aspect, the association can look back on a very successful gathering.

December 6, 2025 - The seventh and final day of the National Pétanque Competition 2025‑2026 in 2025 was a very successful one for both competition teams from Pétanque Union Bois le Duc. The first team from ‘s-Hertogenbosch played away on the extremely difficult courts of PV ’t Lover in Asten. At the same time, the second team played ‘at home’ in Ammerzoden against PV Mooie Boule from Berlicum.

The indoor courts at PV ‘t Lover in Asten are very resilient, which makes shooting a boule difficult. Only a perfect shot, - i.e. hitting the boule straight through the air -, will yield results. The home team, clearly at an advantage due to their knowledge of the courts, got off to a flying start by winning two out of three games in the first doubles round (12-13, 13-9 and 10-13), putting the team from ‘s-Hertogenbosch immediately 1-2 behind. The subsequent triples round, usually the strongest asset of P.U. Bois le Duc 1, did not produce the expected result. While the first match was won quickly (13-4), the second match was narrowly lost, despite a tactical substitution: 9-13. Result: 2-3 in favour of Asten. In the third round, which was again played in doubles, P.U. Bois le Duc 1 had to win at least two matches for a draw and three matches for the day’s victory. Thanks to a good pep talk and a smart team division, the team managed to secure the full victory (13-5, 13-9, 13-7), which not only secured the day’s victory but also moved P.U. Bois le Duc 1 up from third to second place in the 4^th Division - Group 4003. PV ‘t Lover 2 was directly above the team from ‘s-Hertogenbosch. This victory puts the top position back within reach.

P.U. Bois le Duc 2 lost its first place in the rankings of the 5^th Division - Group 5003 on the last day of the competition and was out for sporting retribution. The team from ‘s-Hertogenbosch started the match against PV Mooie Boule 4 from Berlicum in good spirits and with extreme concentration. This immediately resulted in the first doubles round, in which two of the three matches were won convincingly: 13-9, 8-13 and 13-2, resulting in a nice 2-1 lead. In the triples round, one of the two matches was won (7-13, 13-1), maintaining the lead: 3-2. However, to secure the day’s victory, it was necessary to win two of the three doubles matches in the final round. P.U. Bois le Duc 2 managed to pull off this feat: 9-13, 13-9 and 13-11. Final score: 5-3 in favour of the team from ‘s‑Hertogenbosch. Because the leader, Jeu de Boules association L’Ammerzo 1 from Ammerzoden, lost at home to the second team of the Nijmegen Jeu de Boules association De Valkatties (3-5), P.U. Bois le Duc 2 now takes the lead in its division and the team goes into the winter break feeling good.

The next competition day will take place on Saturday, January 10^th 2026. P.U. Bois le Duc 1 will then play ‘at home’ in Ammerzoden against Jeu de Boules association Cloeck en Moedigh 1. P.U. Bois le Duc 2 will then play away in Schijndel against PV Wij Liggen 3.

December 1, 2025 - The pride of the Bossche Parade (EC Pétanque 2022) is (for now) stepping down from international competition. Joey van Doorn is still young, so we expect to see him back at the highest level, but for now we simply want to say ... Joey van, thank you so much!!! 🙂

Thank you for painting the Bossche Parade orange more than once (together with the other #TeamNL stars). What a wonderful sporting memory that event has become for our Noord-Brabant capital ‘s-Hertogenbosch, thanks in part to you! 🥳

You are a winner: on and off the pétanque court. Winning = celebrating, losing = accepting. In both cases, you were one of the best in our country. Well brought up by Rose Marie! 🙏🏻

November 29, 2025 - On day six of the National Pétanque Competition 2025-2026, P.U. Bois le Duc 1 played ‘at home’ in Ammerzoden against PC Amitié 1 from Best. At the same time, P.U. Bois le Duc 2 had to compete against PV Jeu de Bommel 3 in Zaltbommel.

P.U. Bois le Duc 1 had a difficult start to the competition but is slowly finding its way forward. In Ammerzoden, the team from ‘s-Hertogenbosch, - playing in the 4^th Division - Group 4003 -, did well by defeating their opponents from Best with a resounding score of 6-2. The team is on an upward trajectory and slowly climbing the rankings.

In Zaltbommel, P.U. Bois le Duc 2 had to win to maintain its leading position in the 5^th Division - Group 5003, and the team started with great enthusiasm. Unfortunately, they were unable to match the level of previous competition days and lost 3-5 to the team from Zaltbommel. It’s a shame, but with eight competition days still to go, it’s not the end of the world.

The next competition day will take place on Saturday, December 6^th. P.U. Bois le Duc 1 will play away against PV ‘t Lover 4 in Asten. P.U. Bois le Duc 2 will play ‘at home’ in Ammerzoden against PV Mooie Boule 4 from Berlicum.

November 25, 2025 - We were deeply shocked to learn that one of our prominent members, Fons Brenninkmeyer, passed away suddenly last weekend at the age of 75. This was the result of cardiac arrest. It is so bizarre to have to report this, as this fine gentleman was still very much alive and actively involved in our association and society.

Fons was one of the first members of Pétanque Union Bois le Duc (May 2022) and was always very animated and (in his own way) present. He was an intellectual and eloquent man, which meant that you could always have a good but also lively conversation with him. He often had ideas about things, some of which we embraced. Earlier this year, he was still actively involved in the construction of the tent halls and helped assemble many of the pipes. He also made a beautiful visual report of this, one that is certainly worthy of the city’s historical archives. Click here to view it.

Fons was very socially engaged and therefore knew how to navigate not only the local community of ‘s‑Hertogenbosch, but also local politics. If you do a Google search, you will see his name pop up in connection with various local initiatives he was involved in, ranging from carnival to parking problems and neighbourhood design.

In addition to his local involvement, from June 2023 until his sudden death, Fons was involved as a cameraman with Stichting Komma, an organisation that helps terminally ill parents record their life stories free of charge in an interview on camera, as a lasting memory for their (often very young) children. The boundless passion with which he carried out his volunteer work for Stichting Komma was evident from the times I spoke to him about it. It is admirable and very impressive that you can do this kind of work, which is often confrontational for many people. Now we mourn his death ...

Stichting Komma keeps the memory of the deceased alive, and Fons played an important role in this. A role that must also remain alive, which is why I am asking you, without obligation, of course, to donate to this foundation. You can do so via this link.

We wish Fons’ wife Francis and her loved ones much strength in coping with their loss.

PS: in connection with the funeral and out of respect for Fons, there will be no games on Thursday, November 27^th.

November 15, 2025 - On day five of the National Pétanque Competition 2025-2026, P.U. Bois le Duc 1 played away in Dommelen against PC Dommels Boeleke 1. P.U. Bois le Duc 2 played ‘at home’ in Ammerzoden against PV Mooie Boules 3 from Berlicum.

Both teams needed to win, but for different reasons. P.U. Bois le Duc 1 was looking for a win to get back in the race for a possible championship in the 4^th Division - Group 4003. P.U. Bois le Duc 2 was at the top of the 5^th Division - Group 5003 rankings before the start of the competition day and was fighting to maintain its leading position. Both teams achieved their goals, with resounding 6‑2 victories both away and at home. This puts P.U. Bois le Duc 2 firmly in the saddle and keeps them in the lead, while P.U. Bois le Duc 1 climbs a little higher in the rankings.

On Saturday, November 29^th, P.U. Bois le Duc 1 will play ‘at home’ in Ammerzoden against PC Amitie 1 from Best. P.U. Bois le Duc 2 will then take on PV Jeu de Bommel 3 in Zaltbommel.

November 6, 2025 - Bruna is the market leader in children’s books, magazines, newspapers and greeting cards, and one of the largest suppliers of paper and stationery, lottery tickets, gifts and school supplies. For these reasons, it is not surprising that everyone knows where to find the company, both for their daily necessities and for sponsorship.

A few years ago, our association successfully approached branch manager Marcel Leermakers of Bruna Helftheuvel. At that time, plastic badges were requested and sponsored. Our association uses these during tournaments to distinguish the teams. Now our association was looking for another practical item, namely A5 folder holders to store various forms in the recently installed garden shed. This is so that every association member can access them and, for example, when a prospective association member reports on site, a relevant form can be picked up and handed over.

Our Chairman, Antoon van Mil, received the sponsored items from the ever-friendly staff at Bruna Helftheuvel. Bruna Helftheuvel (Marcel Leermakers), once again ... Thank you very much! 🥳

November 1, 2025 - On day four of the National Pétanque Competition 2025-2026, P.U. Bois le Duc 1 played away in Sint-Michielsgestel against JdB association ‘t Dupke 3. P.U. Bois le Duc 2 played ‘at home’ in Ammerzoden against JdB association De Valkatties 2 from Nijmegen.

After three difficult rounds, P.U. Bois le Duc 1 once again got off to a slow start against a friendly and skilled opponent. After the first round of doubles, the score was 2-1 in favour of the team from ‘s-Hertogenbosch. In the triples round, this lead had to be extended, but with one triples match won and one lost, the interim score was 3-2. The win would therefore have to be achieved in the final round, but this was not successful as two of the three doubles were narrowly lost, resulting in a 4-4 draw.

Nevertheless, the players of P.U. Bois le Duc 1 ultimately achieved a huge victory, one that will almost certainly continue throughout the rest of the competition! The team spirit was again rediscovered after the third match. This was an important aspect that had clearly been lost by playing in the tent halls and staying in a noisy soccer canteen. So you don’t necessarily have to win literally to win!

P.U. Bois le Duc 2 played an excellent game of boules ‘at home’ in Ammerzoden against De Valkatties 2 from Nijmegen. After the first round of doubles, they had a 3-0 lead that was never in danger. In the triples round, they won and lost (4-1), and in the final round of doubles, they sealed their opponents’ fate by winning two of the three doubles matches. The result: a final score of 6-2. A great team performance! 😊

On Saturday, November 15^th, P.U. Bois le Duc 1 will play away in Valkenswaard against PV Dommels Boeleke 1. P.U. Bois le Duc 2 will play ‘at home’ in Ammerzoden against PV Mooie Boule 3 from Berlicum.

October 18, 2025 - P.U. Bois le Duc 1 once again underperformed on the third day of the National Pétanque Competition 2025-2026 in the 4^th Division. At home, in the tent halls, they lost 3-5 to PV Jeu de Bommel 2 from Zaltbommel.

Away in Wijchen, P.U. Bois le Duc 2 fared much better. The team from ‘s-Hertogenbosch managed to beat PV Le Château 2 6-2 in the 5^th Division. A fine performance.

On Saturday, November 1st, P.U. Bois le Duc 1 will play away against JdB association ‘t Dupke 3 in Sint-Michielsgestel. On that date, P.U. Bois le Duc 2 will move to Ammerzoden for their home match, where they will face De Valkatties 2 from Nijmegen.

October 10, 2025 - Our association recently acquired a composite garden shed for storing the materials our association needs on a daily basis. It is an attractive but somewhat laborious interim solution on the way to our ultimate goal: fully-fledged indoor and outdoor accommodation with all the trimmings, so to speak. Because space in the garden shed is limited, our Chairman Antoon van Mil set to work looking for metal shelving to make the best possible use of the already limited space in the garden shed. In his digital search for the right shelving, he immediately latched onto the slogan of Belgium-based Avasco Shelving: “No space to waste”. Exactly! No space should be left unused when you already have so little space.

In a pleasant telephone conversation with the Avasco Shelving operator, he was referred to Koen Bonte, Business Unit Manager Shelving. After receiving the formal email with the sponsorship request, he immediately responded with a ‘top of the shelf’ reply: Avasco Shelving accepted the request from Pétanque Union Bois le Duc and is sponsoring two metal STRONG racks (1 x 176x90x40 cm and 1 x 176x120x40 cm) free of charge. This is fantastic! 😊

The sponsored STRONG shelving units can carry up to 175 kilograms per shelf, ideal for storing the boules containers we use for the pétanque clinics at our club. Avasco Shelving, part of parent company Avasco Industries, specialises in the manufacture of such durable and sturdy metal shelving, particularly for the DIY sector, and is the preferred partner of major European retailers and traders. Their products can therefore be found in all major DIY stores in the Netherlands.

October 7, 2025 - Since April, Pétanque Union Bois le Duc has been using its two tent halls. Each is 12 meters long and 8 meters wide, so they are not just any old tents. The height of the tent halls is also impressive: over 5 meters at the ridge. A large ladder is needed to maintain the tent halls properly and to open and close the ventilation hatches in the ridge. After some searching, Chairman Antoon van Mil ended up at Alumexx, based in Etten-Leur. This traditional Dutch company not only manufactures and supplies scaffolding, but also various types of steps and ladders.

Contact with sales representative Joost van der Heijden went smoothly. He immediately recognised the social value of the requested sponsorship and took it to the Alumexx management. In no time at all, approval was given for the delivery of a 3 x 12 step aluminium ladder. And not just any ladder, but a so-called A-ladder! This ladder can be used not only straight but also in an A-shape in a free-standing configuration. A multifunctional piece of equipment from Alumexx for which our association is extremely grateful!

TENT HALLS P.U. BOIS LE DUC PERSIST BUT ARE NOT ENOUGH

While Storm Amy did her best to blow down the tent halls of P.U. Bois le Duc last Saturday, inside, amid the noise of creaking metal trusses and flapping tent fabric, the first home match of the National Pétanque Competition 2025-2026 was played. P.U. Bois le Duc 1 faced PV ‘t Lover 2 from Asten in the 4^th Division.

Time for a real pétanque hall in ‘s-Hertogenbosch

Upon entering one of the two tent halls, the players immediately encountered an unpleasant surprise. Although the tent halls are waterproof, the ground underneath them is obviously not, which meant that there was a large puddle of water on the playing field. Because rainproof or not, during a heavy downpour, water simply rises through the ground due to ‘the law of communicating vessels’. It became clear on the very first home match day that the tent halls are durable but not sufficient! During the game, there is no contact with teammates on the courts in the tent hall, so you don’t know whether you are winning or losing, which is very important tactically. Going inside by opening the heavy zippers also disrupts the game and the temperature fluctuates too much, especially when the humidity is high. The lack of a competition area and a private canteen also detracts from the convenience and, above all, the atmosphere. The competition teams sit separately, in a football canteen with music that is too loud. It is therefore imperative that the club, which is striving to reach an ever higher level, is now truly recognised by the municipality and given access to a permanent boules hall. Literally every village around ‘s‑Hertogenbosch has a permanent hall with an average of twelve to sixteen indoor courts, except for the capital of Noord-Brabant itself.

P.U. Bois le Duc 1 loses top position

On paper, P.U. Bois le Duc 1 was stronger and, even the opposition expected the team from ‘s‑Hertogenbosch to win. This turned out to be purely theoretical because, amid the aforementioned loud noise, the team from ‘s-Hertogenbosch was immediately 0-3 behind in the first doubles round. Despite the relatively convincing double win that followed in the triples round (2-3) and the quick equaliser in the second doubles round (3-3), the last two doubles were hopeless and lost due to poor play. Final score: 3-5. This loss means that P.U. Bois le Duc 1 immediately loses its leading position in the 4^th Division and has its work cut out for it.

P.U. Bois le Duc 2 narrowly misses out on three wins

In Ammerzoden, P.U. Bois le Duc 2, despite the magnificent pétanque hall there with sixteen heated indoor courts, lost by the same score (3-5) to JdB association L’Ammerzo 1. The team from ‘s‑Hertogenbosch did not have luck on their side, losing three of the eight matches very narrowly by 12-13. This is a great pity because a win would have put the team directly at the top of the 5^th Division in which it competes.

On Saturday, October 18^th, both teams from ‘s-Hertogenbosch will have another chance. P.U. Bois le Duc 1 will play at home against PV Jeu de Bommel 2 and P.U. Bois le Duc 2 will play away in Wijchen against PV Le Château 2.

September 30, 2025 - As you get older, you often can’t continue playing the sport you’ve always played (with the same enthusiasm). This is also true for the basketball friends of ‘MU55’ (‘Meiden Under 55’). They have played together for decades and now choose to do something different every week in terms of sport. In this case, from padel to boules. The ladies have a lot of fun together, as you can see from the cheerful group photo! 🙂

September 28, 2025 - On a sun-drenched Sunday, twelve of Pétanque Union Bois le Duc’s finest members gathered to compete for the club’s singles championship, known in French as ‘tête-à-tête’. Theo van Wandelen, winner of the 2024 edition, had to defend his title.

In groups of four players, everyone played each other once, making a total of three preliminary rounds. The best player from each group plus the best runner-up advanced to the semi-finals. Unfortunately, the defending champion failed to qualify, with that honour going to Antoon van Mil, Elly Smit and Ruud van Hintum respectively. The best runner-up was Marco Tijl, who became the fourth finalist.

Ruud van Hintum won relatively easily in the first semi-final against Elly Smit (13-3), who played excellently, and qualified for the final. Chairman Antoon van Mil couldn’t get going against a very consistent Marco Tijl and also lost (3-13).

In the final, Ruud van Hintum quickly pulled ahead of Marco Tijl and it looked like it was going to be a one-sided affair. This changed suddenly when Tijl stepped up his game (particularly his concentration). Van Hintum’s boules were just a little less accurate, allowing Tijl to turn a large deficit into a victory. He won the final 13-12, claiming the 2025 club championship title. On behalf of the board, congratulations! 🎉

The consolation final between Antoon van Mil and Elly Smit was a friendly affair in which Smit once again played excellently and Van Mil played many ‘just not quite’ boules. Smit achieved a well-deserved victory (7-13) and thus secured 3^rd place in the championship.

September 27, 2025 - The first team of Pétanque Union Bois le Duc had to play away in Sint‑Oedenrode on their first match day of the National Pétanque Competition 2025-2026, against the first team of Jeu de Boules association Cloeck & Moedigh. In the 4^th Division - Group 4003, the team from ‘s-Hertogenbosch, having been promoted for two consecutive years, is facing increasingly stronger opponents. This is a welcome challenge that the team is eager to take on, and P.U. Bois le Duc 1’s goal is clear: to be promoted for the third year in a row.

The first round of doubles matches was a first test for P.U. Bois le Duc 1. It was, of course, the first time in over six months that the team members had played together again. The doubles team of Antoon van Mil and Liesbeth van Ooijen - van Rooijen got off to a flying start and won relatively easily (13-6) thanks to their consistent play. Hans van Woerkum and Edith Pol - Willemsen, on the other hand, were unable to break free and lost 9-13. With the score at 1-1, it was up to John Pol and Robin Coolen to take the lead against a strong opponent. Despite a surprisingly mediocre performance, they still managed to secure victory: 13-10, bringing the score to 2-1.

The second round of matches, played in triples format, went almost flawlessly for the triplet John Pol, Robin Coolen and Corrie van Mil - de Looijer. The synergy between the trio is evident from their play and the result they achieved: 13-6. The triplet Hans van Woerkum, Liesbeth van Ooijen - van Rooijen and Antoon van Mil got off to a good start but collapsed somewhat halfway through the match. Thanks to a tactical substitution, Edith Pol - Willemsen replaced Liesbeth van Ooijen - van Rooijen, they narrowly won (13-11). This gave P.U. Bois le Duc 1 a comfortable 4-1 lead. Only one match in the third and second round had to be won for the day’s victory.

The women’s doubles team of Liesbeth van Ooijen - van Rooijen and Edith Pol - Willemsen got off to a flying start. In no time at all, they had a 6-0 lead on the board, a lead that the ladies did not relinquish: 13-4. The doubles team of John Pol and Robin Coolen had settled into their game and, against the same opponent, they won convincingly this time: 13-6. Antoon van Mil and Corrie van Mil - de Looijer completed the victory party by also winning: 13-9. This meant that a 7-1 win could be taken back to ‘s-Hertogenbosch. Also, the team is immediately at the top of the group table.

September 23, 2025 - Finding sponsors is difficult enough, let alone retaining them. The costs are mounting for the average company, and in addition, sponsorship yields relatively little return for a company in this digital world. The world has been digitised, so why bother with physical or financial sponsorship when the reach is already so great thanks to the internet? 🙈

Vos Products seems to have a slightly different view on this! Sponsorship is ‘inherent’ to the company, in its DNA. Sponsorship is a personal thing, and it feels (rightly so!) not only rewarding to do so, but it actually is. Having and maintaining an eye for community life and society, no matter how small the gesture. Community life is so dependent on people who still see this ... ❤️

After Vos Products had already given us a hefty discount on the plastic edging that now adorns our tent halls as boules and water-retaining walls, the company is now sponsoring, free of charge, four tubes of sealant needed to finish the composite garden shed recently purchased by our association. An interesting detail: Vos Products already provided two tubes of sealant completely free of charge with the edging. An extra thank you is therefore certainly in order, so here it is...

September 20, 2025 - The fact that politicians in ‘s-Hertogenbosch are very supportive of our association was once again demonstrated today when, following in the footsteps of her colleague, Councillor Marianne van der Sloot, the brand-new CDA party leader Rachna Lipman came to see for herself how our association has been doing its best to make a difference in the society of ‘s‑Hertogenbosch since its official opening in 2022. Pétanque Union Bois le Duc does this not only by offering the game/sport of pétanque, but also by actively participating in social programmes such as the Senior Citizens’ Festival and the Summer School 55+ organised by the Active Senior Citizens Foundation. Recently, a number of association members also organised the social programme ‘Boules in your Neighbourhood’. This involved four consecutive weeks of pétanque activities on the local courts in the Deuteren and Orthen neighbourhoods of ‘s‑Hertogenbosch and at the Oosterplas. The aim of the programme was to promote social cohesion by offering the accessible game of pétanque in order to encourage (in particular) older people to participate and give them an opportunity to make new social contacts and forge new friendships.

Since this spring, Pétanque Union Bois le Duc has had access to temporary indoor facilities consisting of two tent halls, each measuring 12 by 8 meters. A promising start, but not the association’s ultimate goal, which is to have a permanent pétanque hall as part of a multifunctional facility. “Simply building a pétanque hall is nice, but it adds nothing to society of ‘s‑Hertogenbosch,” begins John Stohr, Chairman of the Building Committee. “By focusing on the multifunctional use of the space, together with the Municipality of ‘s-Hertogenbosch, sustainability is being promoted.” Stohr is not only referring to the effective use of the already scarce municipal land and the lower operating costs of such a complex, but above all to its social added value. “Sports, games and recreation come together in one location. Everyone is welcome: from darts to boules, to play cards, have a cup of coffee and chat.”

Like a number of other political parties, the CDA has placed forging alliances and thereby increasing social cohesion high on its political agenda. It was for this reason, and because of what Pétanque Union Bois le Duc has done so far to distinguish itself within the community of ‘s‑Hertogenbosch, that CDA party leader Lipman decided to spontaneously take a look at the ins and outs of our association. She was enthusiastically welcomed by Chairman Antoon van Mil, who, after offering her a cup of coffee, entrusted her to Stohr to inspect the tent halls together.

September 20, 2025 - The first match of the National Pétanque Competition 2025-2026 for the second team of Pétanque Union Bois le Duc has been completed. Weather conditions were such that the first two rounds of matches could be played almost entirely outdoors, rather than in the tent halls that had been hastily erected for this purpose earlier this spring. The third round of matches was played in the tent halls due to increasing rainfall.

P.U. Bois le Duc 2 competes in group 5003 of the 5^th Division and played its first match against PV Wij Liggen 3 from nearby Schijndel. P.U. Bois le Duc 2 got off to a flying start in the first doubles round and seemed to be heading for a 3-0 lead, but despite a comfortable lead, they narrowly lost the third doubles match (13-4, 13-11, 12-13). Score: 2-1 in favour of the team from ‘s‑Hertogenbosch.

Whereas a number of players from P.U. Bois le Duc 2 had played almost flawlessly in the first round of matches, they suddenly and unexpectedly played very poorly. The opponents from Schijndel eagerly took advantage of this by winning both triples matches (12-13, 0-13).

Driven to the tent halls, P.U. Bois le Duc 2 seized its opportunities. Two wins were needed for a draw and three for the day’s victory. Bolstered by their knowledge of the court in the tent halls, but above all by their good team spirit, they managed to celebrate three victories. With scores of 13-12, 13-7 and 13-7 respectively, P.U. Bois le Duc clinched the day’s victory with a score of 5‑3. 🥳

On Saturday, September 27^th, P.U. Bois le Duc 1 will play its first match away in Sint-Oedenrode against PV Cloeck & Moedigh 1. On Saturday, October 4^th, P.U. Bois le Duc 2 will play away in Ammerzoden against JdB association L’Ammerzo 1.

September 19, 2025 - More than 130 employees and volunteers from Sint-Janslyceum, - one of the largest secondary schools in ‘s-Hertogenbosch -, found their way to the pétanque courts of Pétanque Union Bois le Duc. Never before had our association hosted such a large group, and so we looked forward to their arrival with a healthy dose of excitement ... 😳

Nothing was left to chance, so Chairman Antoon van Mil enlisted the help of a number of association members. Corrie Van Mil - de Looijer, Paul van den Broek, Johan De Koning, Elly Smit, Liesbeth Van Ooijen-van Rooijen and John Stohr were on hand to ensure the event ran smoothly and to assist the participants with their knowledge of the game. Helped by the excellent weather and the good spirits of the participants, the programme, consisting of three rounds of competition, ultimately ran smoothly. 🥳

September 15, 2025 - Both tent halls have been improved again, thanks in part to the help of court supervisor Theo van Wandelen. Together with Chairman Antoon van Mil, he installed stainless steel hooks in the plastic boarding at the ends of the playing areas and made the necessary removable lines. It was a hell of a job, but thanks to a harmonious collaboration, it was ultimately a piece of cake. 😊

From now on, it is possible to divide the playing area in each tent hall into three separate courts, each 2.5 meters wide. It is also possible to create an N.P.C. playing area 6 meters wide, enough for two matches per tent hall, with a free strip about 1.4 metres wide for spectators. On to the next improvement! 🥳

September 14, 2025 - Organising a weekly pétanque activity in three neighbourhoods in ‘s_‑Hertogenbosch for four weeks. Try doing that! Yet that is exactly what Ruud van Noort and Jan Arnold, prominent association members of Pétanque Union Bois le Duc from ‘s-Hertogenbosch, did. With unprecedented enthusiasm and a warm heart for society, they managed to motivate enough residents of ‘s-Hertogenbosch to come outside every week, on every playing day and at every playing location, to play a fun game of pétanque together. The ‘Boules in your Neighbourhood’ programme can therefore rightly be considered a modest success. 😊

“It was quite a challenge,” Van Noort begins, “but a very enjoyable one with a significant social impact.” Van Noort is referring to the sense of togetherness and the new friendships that spontaneously developed during the gatherings at the local pétanque courts in Deuteren, Orthen and at the Oosterplas. “Some participants had never played before, but they were given an extra warm welcome by our fellow club members who regularly assisted us,” Arnold continues. “The initiative has broad support within P.U. Bois le Duc, our association in ‘s-Hertogenbosch West.” The association, which opened in 2022, has members from all walks of life and of all ages, members who also want to be socially active. Those same members, together with organisers Van Noort and Arnold, also welcomed the participants on the closing day of ‘Boules in your Neigbourhood’. This took place today on the courts of P.U. Bois le Duc at De Fuik 10. Once again, there was a good turnout, with a nice mix of young and old.

Before the start of the first match, Van Noort and Arnold were honoured by Chairman Antoon van Mil. He praised the boundless energy with which both gentlemen organised ‘Boules in your Neigbourhood’ and also the fact that they were always present at every location. Their unbridled commitment really made a difference for several participants, which is very commendable! As a token of gratitude, they both received an oil lamp made from a real pétanque ball. 💡

But the participants in the final day of ‘Boules in your Neighbourhood’ naturally wanted to play a game too, and they did so with great pleasure under a glorious late summer sun. This time there were three matches, as usual, for the sake of conviviality. A winner was announced, but only for the sake of it: after all, all participants in such a social programme are winners! Alirio Siatama finished first with three wins and 32 points. Like all the other participants on the final day, he received a small gift from Chairman Antoon van Mil on behalf of the association.

September 13, 2025 - For the first time, the men of the assocation RKPV Ballen van Staal (in English: ‘Balls of Steel’) from Eindhoven took part in the now famous ‘Bossche bollen mix’ organised by Pétanque Union Bois le Duc in ‘s-Hertogenbosch. They brought considerable weight to the competition, not because of their size but because of the number of players participating and, above all, their unbridled enthusiasm. No fewer than eighteen residents from Eindhoven tried to make things difficult for the thirty other players, most of whom came from and around ‘s‑Hertogenbosch. Given the final score, they succeeded quite well.

All 48 participants played three matches, each time with but also against different opponents. The winner was the player with the highest number of wins (a maximum of three) and the most points. The unexpectedly large number of participants from Eindhoven proved to be quite a challenge for the competition organisers, but after three rounds, the final standings, and with them the top ten, could be determined. The men from RKPV Ballen van Staal featured prominently in these rankings.

Amid loud cheers from their club mates, one after another, players from Eindhoven received a box of delicious Bossche bollen (chocolate bulbs filled with whipped cream) sponsored by Bakery Van Keulen, interspersed with the occasional player from ‘s-Hertogenbosch. When the top three were announced to loud cheers, it fell silent ... Who would walk away with the highest honour? It wasn’t Robin van Strien, who finished in third place with three wins and 27 points. John Pol, player in the first team of P.U. Bois le Duc, also just missed out. With only one more point, he managed to secure second place (3 wins, 28 points). In the end, the highest honour went to Eindhoven, as Alexander Biemans managed to stay ahead of his competitors with 3 wins and 30 points. He received the largest box of Bossche bollen.

During the award ceremony, the Chairman and Secretary of the association from ‘s‑Hertogenbosch, - Antoon van Mil and his mother Corrie van Mil - de Looijer -, respectively, received a T-shirt from RKPV Ballen van Staal from their colleague from Eindhoven Jerphaas de Hoogh. In addition, Pétanque Union Bois le Duc was invited to visit the pétanque courts in Eindhoven. An invitation that, weather permitting, will certainly be accepted!

With the departure of the cheerful Eindhoven residents, the sunny weather also seemed to disappear, because a little later the sky literally opened up and it started pouring with rain, accompanied by heavy thunderstorms. The organisers of Pétanque Union Bois le Duc were lucky, not only with their friendly participants but also with the weather!

The result of the heavy downpours was clearly visible.

September 12, 2025 - It’s (almost) over, ‘Boules in your Neighbourhood’. Today was the fourth and final pétanque session on the two courts at the Oosterplas. And if you were looking for beautiful Dutch skies, well, there was no shortage of those today! A bright autumn sun, white clouds and a fresh breeze: ideal weather for playing pétanque, but with the expectation that the participants would end up with red faces. … Not because of the sun, but because of the exciting matches! 😉

On the last day of play, a new but experienced player, Ad, also joined. He has been playing for the Berlicum Pétanque Association Mooie Boule for quite some time. Coincidentally, he also plays in one of the competition teams that P.U. Bois le Duc 2 will be playing against in the upcoming N.P.C. season.

Including Ad, there were eight participants and a number of entertaining doubles matches were played. Thanks to the wonderful participants, but especially to the coaches from P.U. Bois le Duc, it was once again a very successful afternoon. 🥳

Sunday, September 14^th is the big day. That’s when the final day of ‘Boules in your Neigbourhood’ will take place at the Pétanque Union Bois le Duc facility at De Fuik 10. The location will be open from 1:00 PM, and the first match will start at 1:30 PM. No advance registration is required, there are plenty of boules available, and participation is free. September 8, 2025 - It’s already over for the Deuteren location. For the fourth and, for now, last time, the participants of ‘Boules in your Neighbourhood’ gathered there. Nevertheless, there were enthusiastic faces and the six participants quickly formed two teams: the black boules against the silver boules. They have to roll, and fast! Rens clearly wanted to impress the ladies present and threw too hard without scoring any points. No problem, because he remained 100% committed, which caused a lot of amusement among the other participants. Just like during the previous meetings, it was another enjoyable game of boules. 😊

Supervisor Nancy took down the participants’ mobile phone numbers to create a WhatsApp group with the aim of continuing to meet up at the boules court in Deuteren after ‘Boules in your Neighbourhood’. Everyone is enthusiastic and willingly provides the requested information. A number of them also agree to attend the closing day, which will take place at the Pétanque Union Bois le Duc facility at De Fuik 10 on Sunday, September 14^th between 1:00 PM and 5:00 PM. Everyone is welcome! No advance registration is required, participation is free of charge and boules can be borrowed free of charge.

September 7, 2025 - On a sunny day, sixteen doubles teams from the Netherlands and Belgium made their way to ‘s-Hertogenbosch. There, on the courts of Pétanque Union Bois le Duc, the ‘Bossche doubles’ took place.

In groups of four, all teams played three preliminary rounds, meaning that each team played each other once within the group. The numbers 1 and 2 from each group qualified for the A tournament, and numbers 3 and 4 for the B tournament. In these tournaments, teams had to win and keep winning (direct elimination), otherwise their competition day was over.

After six long matches, the doubles team of Trieu Nguyen (JdB association Va-Tout, Breda) and multiple Dutch champion Son Cao (PV Boules de Boeuf, Oss) won the final of the A tournament 13‑6 against Xander Steijns (PVT, Tilburg) and Dennis Pol (P.U. Bois le Duc).

In the B tournament, there was double success for Pétanque Union Bois le Duc. The duo Hans Woerkum/Theo van Wandelen (P.U. Bois le Duc) played for the final victory against Osman Jibril (PVT, Tilburg), who formed an ad hoc team with Corrie Van Mil - de Looijer (P.U. Bois le Duc). The ad hoc team came out on top and won the final 13-5.

September 5, 2025 - Since 2022, the Le Dido Staff Association of construction company Van Wijnen has been finding its way to the boules courts of Pétanque Union Bois le Duc. What once began somewhat laughably as a seemingly simple staff outing, initially intended to be a one-off event, has now grown into a company-wide event that is not to be missed! All year long, everyone looks forward to the moment when the first boule is played ... Who will take the top honour and who will receive ‘the lantern’ by finishing in last place? The lantern, incidentally, is a real boule that has been converted into a genuine oil lamp. 💡

This year saw a record number of participants: no fewer than 43 Van Wijnen employees took part in the sporting competition. Everyone played three matches, each time with and against different colleagues. While the first match might have been won gloriously with one colleague, the next match with another colleague could be just as difficult: it became clear that not all Van Wijnen employees have the same ball skills. 😉

At Van Wijnen, in addition to construction and development, they also know a lot about having a good time. Even before the first bottle of beer was opened, the spirit was already out of the bottle and the party was in full swing. Tall tales, jokes, but above all laughing together, interspersed with deep conversations. The relaxed nature of the pétanque game contributes enormously to team building in this respect. Not that it’s necessary, because Chairman Antoon van Mil and Secretary Corrie van Mil - de Looijer, - who have also been supervising the company event for four years -, are amazed every year by the wonderfully relaxed atmosphere that is created. 😊

Between the first and second match, there was time for a lavish barbecue. With master chef Hans van Woerkum at the controls, a well-cooked piece of meat was guaranteed. Assisted by association member Theo van Wandelen, he cooked as if he could earn a Michelin star. Full of passion and with a flair for cooking that many restaurants could learn from! 🥩

In addition to the entertaining and intimate atmosphere, there was also fierce competition. After three gruelling rounds, the lantern bearer and the new champion were announced. Stan van Lith, with zero wins and a balance of minus 14 points, had the dubious honour of receiving the lantern. Tom Veekens, on the other hand, with three wins and 24 points, was crowned the new company champion. He will be able to defend his title in 2026. Both received their well-deserved prices from organiser Jeroen Mutsaers. 🏆

September 5, 2025 - Boules in Your Neighbourhood, week 3, episode 9. For the third time, we visited the boules courts at the Oosterplas. Once again, there was a good turnout with eight guest players. Six of them were also there last week, but two new enthusiastic participants joined us. With the addition of four members of the Pétanque Union Bois le Duc club, this provided the opportunity to play two triplet matches (i.e. three against three, each with two boules).

The group had to endure two heavy rain showers, but as always, after rain comes sunshine! This was also the case here, as the clouds disappeared and a pleasant late summer sun appeared. So it was wonderful to play! 😊 A number of asylum seekers from the AZC took the opportunity to learn some Spanish-English and English-Spanish during the game.

The enthusiasm remains high, as most of those present will be coming to the final day at the P.U. Bois le Duc accommodation at De Fuik 10 next week. The final day of ‘Boules in your Neighbourhood’ will take place there on Sunday, September 14^th.

September 4, 2025 - While the boules were already warming up in the sun on the pétanque court on the Schaarhuisstraat in Orthen, two new faces showed up for ‘Boules in your Neighbourhood’: Marlies and Jan. Jan had brought his own boules and immediately unpacked them. They turned out to be so new that the bystanders were blinded by their shine. “Newly purchased?”, someone asked. “No”, said Jan, “I’ve had them for 20 years but never used them!” Jan turned out to be quite talented, playing like a pro. 😊

‘Conviviality’, one of the most important aspects of ‘Boules in your Neighbourhood’, also prevailed on the third day of play in Orthen. Playing sportingly with each other, sometimes on a knife-edge, but always with mutual respect and a lot of fun! ❤️

September 3, 2025 - What do you do as an association with limited financial resources? Exactly, you reach out to well-known sponsors when you need something, hoping that they will sponsor you again. It is important to always approach companies that have sponsored you before first, to give them the first chance to do so again. That’s only fair, isn’t it? A kind of ‘earned credits’. 😊

That’s how it went with the sponsorship of the necessary line markings for our tent halls. As with the initial construction of our pétanque courts in 2022 and their restoration in 2023, the building materials and piping systems wholesaler Stichting Middelkoopp, based in Buurmalsen, Werkendam and Zaltbommel, will sponsor us again in 2025. This time with a free delivery of 300 meters of orange polypropylene rope (4 mm thick).

Marijn Copier, an employee at Stichting Middelkoop - Zaltbommel branch, presented our Secretary Corrie van Mil - de Looijer with two rolls of 150 meters each. Once again, thank you so much for this selfless but oh-so-kind gesture! 🥳

September 1, 2025 - The third day of play in sunny Deuteren: time flies when you’re having fun! 😊 There were many familiar faces present on the local pétanque court, and in that respect, ‘Boules in your Neighbourhood’ is a modest social success, as people recognise and greet each other as (new) friends. It’s wonderful to see! ❤️

The teams were quickly formed and the first match began. This required a bit of a refresher on the rules. Stay in the throwing circle, point the boule correctly and if you are on the right, put your right foot slightly in front of your left. Two things were not lacking this afternoon: sportsmanship and rivalry! Everyone was driven to win and each team played fanatically for the final victory! Rens and Linda are even considering joining Pétanque Union Bois le Duc, as they have acquired a taste for the game. 🍴

Despite the fanaticism, this sunny afternoon in Deuteren was also an afternoon of much laughter. Another small piece of positive history has been written for ‘s-Hertogenbosch. 🎉

August 30, 2025 - ‘Hintham Bruist’ is a social event that aims to bring the residents of Hintham together through sport and recreation. Based at the Sociaal Cultural Center de Biechten, the event featured a market with stalls, a bouncy castle for the little ones, and the police with their flashing lights on to attract the attention of older children. To top it all off, at the end of the day there was even a free lottery with great prices, sponsored entirely by local businesses. In short: the event was extremely well organised, something that Councillor Roy Geers certainly noticed after his inspiring opening speech. 😊

Pétanque Union Bois le Duc was present at the pétanque court right in front of De Biechten, located on Vincent van Goghlaan. The scoreboard for ‘Boules in your Neighbourhood 2024’ was still there and the location was immediately ready for play. Volunteers Hans van Woerkum, Johan de Koning, Secretary Corrie van Mil - de Looijer and Chairman Antoon van Mil were there to explain the finer points of the game to visitors to ‘Hintham Bruist’.

Throughout the day, various residents, ranging from young (8!) to old (>80), joined in the fun and played a game of pétanque. In addition to the volunteers mentioned above, they were also assisted by a number of members of Pétanque Union Bois le Duc, who also dropped by. Piet Ronnes, Elly Smit, Monique Van de Pol and Annelies van der Zanden, among others, were present to add extra glamour to the event and cheer on the participants. 🎉

August 29, 2025 - The weather conditions were somewhat uncertain at the start of the sixth day of ‘Boules in your Neighbourhood’, this time on the pétanque courts at the Oosterplas. You could smell the moisture as soon as you arrived, but was it in the air or was it the smell of the water from the Oosterplas? Probably a bit of both. Playing outdoors in dry weather is nice as long as it stays dry … 🤔

Ruud van Noort and Paul van den Broek had already prepared everything. After their arrival, Astrid and Pieter quickly followed with the residents of the AZC, Claudia and Adilio, followed a little later by Lara. Kudos to Astrid and Pieter for involving people in Dutch society. Previous participants in ‘Boules in your Neighbourhood’ also joined the group. The teams were divided up and it was clear that the practice from last time was paying off! It’s amazing how quickly people get the hang of this game, or are we dealing with talented players here? 👌🏼

This afternoon was also filled with happy faces and enthusiasm, and again … without rain!!! Oh yes, this should not go unmentioned: three passers-by reacted with such interest that we expect them to join in next time. The motto of ‘Boules in your Neighbourhood’: ‘Seeing play encourages play!’ 😊

August 28, 2025 - Report Jan Arnold, co-organiser of ‘Boules in your Neighbourhood’

Today, ‘Boules in your Neighbourhood’ is taking place on the pétanque court near the Schaarhuisstraat in Orthen. Will it stay dry or will it rain cats and dogs? A shower would be welcome for the garden, but the participants in ‘Boules in your Neighbourhood’ would prefer it to stay dry. Ria and Ger arrive, and a little later Bertus joins them too: what fun! 😊 Ria and Ger have played pétanque before and play regularly during their winter stay in Portugal. For Bertus, it’s been a while and he still needs to work on his posture and standing correctly in the throwing circle.

August 25, 2025 - For the second week in a row, ‘Boules in your Neighbourhood’ visited the pétanque court in Deuteren. There was a large representation from Pétanque Union Bois le Duc, with no fewer than four volunteers. Paul Meisen, Annelies van der Zanden, Diny Buise - van Roosmalen and co-organiser Ruud van Noort enthusiastically took care of the five extremely enthusiastic participants who had come to the court, accompanied by a lovely late summer sun. 🌞

Two triples matches were played (i.e. 3 against 3 with two boules each), interspersed with a short break during which cold drinks were served with delicious cookies brought by Diny. The whole event was a great success, thanks in part to the cooling shade provided by the tree next to the court. Three participants indicated that they would also attend the final day on Sunday, September 14th, which will take place on the sixteen pétanque courts of P.U. Bois le Duc at De Fuik 10. 🌳

August 22, 2025 - There are two pétanque courts at the Oosterplas, right on the water’s edge and with a view over a beautiful reed bed. An almost idyllic setting for the third day of ‘Boules in your Neighbourhood’, held for the first time at this location, which was hastily refurbished by our association members (Johan de Koning and Theo van Wandelen). There were still some weeds and rubbish lying around. The municipality was unable to take care of this, but fortunately our accommodation managers stepped in like true heroes to get the location ready for play. Fantastic! 😊

After testing the courts by throwing a ball, the first participants gradually arrived. Among them were three people from the asylum seekers’ center, accompanied by Pieter. It was a full house and more participants turned up than had registered in advance. Great! 🥳

The volunteers from Pétanque Union Bois le Duc taught the participants the rules of the game in a playful manner. The language barrier was no problem at all. With a big smile on everyone’s face, the afternoon went smoothly and was very enjoyable. One of the participants was so delighted with their own game that they spontaneously forgot to take their boules with them when they left. 🤦🏼‍♂️

August 21, 2025 - Today, the second day of ‘Boules in your Neighbourhood’ took place on the pétanque court at the Schaarhuisstraat in Orthen, with pleasant temperatures, lovely summer sunshine and a few fluffy clouds here and there. Ideal conditions for a game of pétanque! 🙂

There were only two registrations and no fewer than five volunteers to supervise them. After a brief explanation of the basics of jeu de boules, the first match began. The two participants each played with a member of P.U. Bois le Duc, which led to unabated enthusiasm, despite the somewhat low turnout! 🙂 Every good throw was invariably accompanied by loud cheers and applause. Both participants (Ton and Gonny) showed their best side, using the playing skills they had acquired during their holidays to their advantage. A well-deserved ‘Chapeau!’ for these two enthusiastic beginners. 🥳

August 19, 2025 - ‘Enjoy, learn and exercise!’, that is the motto of the 2025 Senior Citizens’ Festival in the De Schutskamp neighbourhood, organised by Farent community workers in collaboration with the Sports & Recreation Department of the Municipality of ‘s-Hertogenbosch. The Senior Citizens’ Festival, which focuses on health, exercise, (digital) safety & living, culture and socialising, will take place on Monday, October 6^th, spread across De Schutskamp. The aim of the Senior Citizens’ Festival is to introduce residents to the enjoyable and diverse range of leisure activities available in the neighbourhood, thereby increasing social cohesion and encouraging older people to exercise more through activities that suit them. There is a wide range of activities to participate in, such as our wonderful pétanque game.

From 7 PM, the location of Pétanque Union Bois le Duc at De Fuik 10 will be open to anyone who wants to learn about our game/sport, as well as meet our friendly association members. No advance registration is required, just drop in and participate for free. There are plenty of boules available to borrow, so there’s no reason not to come! 😉

August 19, 2025 - Lebbeke (B) meets ‘s-Hertogenbosch - In an unexpectedly charming collaboration between steel and sport, the Belgian company Hermans Verenfabriek has donated twenty of its finest springs to Pétanque Union Bois le Duc. Not to bounce boules or cheer on players, but to provide temporary demarcation of the pétanque courts in their tent halls. And yes, it works surprisingly well. 🥳

The springs (type: HV-40380) are located on both sides of the intermediate lines.

Hermans Verenfabriek, located in the resilient heart of the Belgian village of Lebbeke, is known for its technical springs that normally find their way into machines, vehicles and anything that needs to move stiffly but smoothly. But this time, they are proving that their products also serve well in the world of sports and recreation. The twenty springs form a flexible yet clear boundary between the courts, allowing players to maintain their concentration without being disturbed by their ‘neighbours’.

August 18, 2025 - The first day of ‘Boules in your Neighbourhood’ took place at the local pétanque court in Deuteren. Under the guidance of Annelies van der Zanden, Inge Boonzaaijer and Ruud van Noort (all members of Pétanque Union Bois le Duc), two local residents, together with two players from another neighbourhood, played a number of enjoyable games. In addition to game supervision, drinks were also provided, ensuring that the participants were well catered for.

One of the local residents had also participated last year and was already familiar with the social programme. The other participant had heard about ‘Boules in your Neighbourhood’ through the local community center. The participant from Engelen heard about it through the tennis club and the fourth participant, from Hambaken, read the article in the Bossche Omroep. So four participants through four different channels: the PR seems to be working! 😊

Enthusiasm was high, as at least one of the participants will also be attending the final day on Sunday, September 14^th at the P.U. Bois le Duc courts at De Fuik 10 in ‘s‑Hertogenbosch West.

Between 2:00 PM and 4:30 PM, several matches were played in various combinations. There was also a steady stream of interested visitors. The motto ‘Seeing is playing ...’ has had a positive effect and is in line with the goal of ‘Boules in your Neighbourhood’: to improve social cohesion through the accessible game of boules.

While playing, employees from Farent (Nancy van Santvoort - Horsten) and S-PORT (Linda Peeters) stopped by to check things out. Later that afternoon, the city photographer arrived to capture the event for posterity.

On Monday, August 18^th 2025, ‘Boules in your Neighbourhood’ will kick off, a programme that aims to improve social cohesion in the ‘s-Hertogenbosch neighbourhoods Deuteren, Orthen, Oosterplas and De Schutskamp through the accessible game of pétanque. For four consecutive weeks, an activity will take place every week at the local pétanque court in the respective neighbourhood. The goal: to get (especially) older people moving, combat loneliness and offer an opportunity to forge new friendships. All this while enjoying a cup of coffee or tea. ☕🍵

Success formula

Ruud van Noort (72) and Jan Arnold (72), both residents of our beautiful capital city in Brabant and prominent members of Pétanque Union Bois le Duc, are once again the driving forces behind ‘Boules in your Neighbourhood’.

They also organised the event in 2024, which was considered a modest success. Reason enough for both gentlemen to continue the programme and the chosen formula in 2025 with the same passion as before. ❤️

Everyone can participate for free!

Young and old are welcome, and participation in ‘Boules in your Neighbourhood’ is free of charge. Game equipment is also available free of charge. A court coach is always present at the playing locations to welcome participants. This is a volunteer from P.U. Bois le Duc, who also familiarises participants with the rules of the game. He or she ensures that everyone gets to know each other and feels comfortable. Nothing is left to chance by the organisers, all with the aim of making it another successful event. 😊

July 25, 2025 - At the time of writing, the members of Sports Club Zoete Lieve Gerritje from ‘s‑Hertogenbosch are competing hard but fairly at the EuroGames 2025 in Lyon. The EuroGames are an annual European multi-sport event that revolves around inclusivity, diversity and sportsmanship, with a special focus on the LGBTIQ+ community. The EuroGames are open to everyone, regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation, age, origin or physical disability. Its objective is to promote acceptance, visibility and emancipation of LGBTIQ+ athletes in Europe. The very first edition took place in 1992 in The Hague and has since visited many major cities, including this year’s host city of Lyon, France, where the 22nd edition of the event will be held. The European Gay & Lesbian Sport Federation (EGLSF) is responsible for organising the entire event. 🏳️‍🌈🌈

Every year, the EuroGames offer a variety of sports, such as soccer, swimming, volleyball, rowing, badminton, ballroom dancing and even pickleball. This year, pétanque is also on offer, the sport in which the sports club has registered.

To be well prepared, the sports club enlisted the help of Rini van Woerkum, then trainer at Pétanque Union Bois le Duc. He spent about ten lessons on technique, tactics and mental resilience: all to prepare the members of ZLG for the big moment. Rini’s instructions were followed closely and the level of play improved as the training sessions progressed. The team was and is (!) ready, as can be seen in the ‘action photo’ from Lyon below. As promised, they proudly wear the Pétanque Union Bois le Duc pin they received from Chairman Antoon van Mil as a lucky charm. 😊

July 18, 2025 - On a sun-drenched afternoon, over 30 members of Pétanque Union Bois le Duc gathered, accompanied by a colourful company of introductions, for what promised to be a memorable barbecue. And let’s be clear right away: promises were more than kept. 😊

Braai master Hans van Woerkum emerged as the undisputed hero of the day. With the calmness of an experienced chef and the precision of a pétanque player, he expertly turned the burgers, sausages and bacon slices on the grill. The smell of grilled meat mingled with the laughter and clinking of glasses as guests, one by one, handed out their compliments to Hans. “Delicious!” echoed from all sides, and that was still an understatement. 🥓🍷🥩🍺🍖

Of course, there was also room for a game of pétanque. With a refreshing drink in hand, the participants went into battle with each other but albeit with a wink. It was a mix of fanaticism and merriment, with even the introducers getting carried away in the charming chaos of precision throws and strategic placements. 🤣

What made this barbecue so special was not just the food or the game, but the sense of community. Members got to know each other better, introductions felt welcome, and the atmosphere was steeped in friendship and openness. It was a moment when the association showed its heart: warm, welcoming and full of a zest for life. ❤️❤️❤️

As the sun slowly set and the last boules were thrown, one thought lingered: this tastes like more. And if Hans van Woerkum takes up the pliers again next year, everyone knows it will be another culinary and sporting feast not to be missed. 🌞

July 18, 2025 - With nine enthusiastic participants, the Active Seniors Foundation visited the site of Pétanque Union Bois le Duc again this year, as part of their annual Summer School for the over-55s. The Summer School lasts from July 7th to July 25th 2025 and offers senior citizens the opportunity to take part in social and/or sports activities that are very diverse in nature.

On arrival at Sportpark De Schutskamp, the participants were warmly welcomed by the volunteers of Pétanque Union Bois le Duc present. After a brief but clear explanation of the game, it was time to roll up their sleeves. The sun was shining, the atmosphere was right, and the boules were soon flying strategically across the court. What followed were some entertaining games in which fun clearly took precedence over performance. People laughed at creative throws, cheered at exciting final scores, and occasionally looked pityingly at a boule thrown just a bit too enthusiastically. The volunteers encouraged, gave tips, and shared their love for the game. And that was contagious! 😊

July 3, 2025 - They were lucky, the officials of the Housing and Land Affairs Department of the Municipality of ‘s-Hertogenbosch. After several days of subtropical temperatures (the first heat wave of 2025!), the temperature had dropped to a pleasant 24 to 25 degrees Celsius, excellent weather for a pétanque tournament and a barbecue.

Under the watchful eye of department manager Theo Meijer, all participants played three games, each time with different fellow players and opponents. After three sporting but extremely fanatical rounds, Peter van der Eerden emerged as the convincing winner with 3 wins and 25 balance points. He was closely followed by Emiel Boot with 3 wins as well but with 21 points. Closer to the top three: co-organiser Stan van der Schoot with 2 wins, 20 points. Just outside the top three and the violence of ‘the men’, Angèle van Daalen finished as best woman with 2 wins and 18 points. Both the results and the pictures can be found here, on our website.

June 28, 2025 - The weather certainly lived up to the name of the sporting pétanque event as, with a temperature of around 25 degrees Celsius and a cooling breeze, the ‘Bossche summer night games’ was played. On the outdoor courts of Pétanque Union Bois le Duc, ten doubles teams from the ‘s‑Hertogenbosch region competed in the light of a warm summer sun over three pre‑selected rounds for the highest honour. Even though participation and conviviality are more important than winning at this event, play was as fanatical as ever.

Convincing first place went to the occasional duo Hans van Woerkum and Tessa van Broekhoven, both members of Pétanque Union Bois le Duc. The duo were the only ones to win all three matches with a total of 19 balance points. John Pol and Dennis Pol, also members of the Bossche association, took second place with two wins and 10 points. Marco Tijl and Antoon van Mil came third with 2 wins and 9 points. As a result, the entire podium consisted of players from Pétanque Union Bois le Duc.

June 14, 2025 - Twenty participants took to the pétanque courts of Pétanque Union Bois le Duc to compete for Bossche bollen (chocolate bulbs filled with whipped cream), selflessly sponsored by Bakery Van Keulen. They all played three mixed matches where each time there were both different fellow players and opponents on the court. For the best ten players, Bossche bollen could be earned.

After three fanatical but extremely enjoyable rounds of play under subtropical conditions, Alwin Narain emerged as the winner. He managed to win three games with a total of 23 victory points. From the hands of chairman Antoon van Mil, he received a large box of Bossche bollen. Second place was won by Annie Pijnenburg, who also managed to win three matches but with 20 points. Jan van Bergen closed the top three with three wins and 14 points.

June 9, 2025 - It is never too late to say thank you. Indeed, to realise afterwards that you are grateful for something means that the gesture made or the gift given has left a lasting impression, however small or large!

In the run-up to and during the realisation of the temporary indoor accommodation, - consisting of two tent halls of 12 by 8 meters each -, several companies selflessly contributed to its realisation and finishing. We would like to put these companies in the limelight by publishing their company logos without pitting them against each other in terms of the performance delivered.

June 9, 2025 - One month, two tournaments! Summer is coming and with it, two cosy pétanque tournaments in burgundy ’s‑Hertogenbosch. 🎉🥳🎉

On Saturday, June 14^th, the ‘Bossche bollen mix’ will take place in which you can participate individually (and until the last minute). 😊 This is a cosy mix tournament with three rounds of play. Each round you always play with but also against others. Participation costs € 3,- but in return you get a chance to win so called ‘Bossche bollen’ (chocolate bulbs filled with whipped cream) sponsored by Bakery Van Keulen. There is a price for the best ten participants so the chance of going home with some tasteful goodies is very high! 🥳 Pre-registration is not necessary, you can sign up on the spot.

On Wednesday evening, June 18^th, Pétanque Union Bois le Duc is organising the ‘Bossche summer night games’. A cosy doubles tournament with three rounds of play. Games are played on time so you will be home on time too. By the way, this is an official NJBB tournament, but if you do not have a playing licence, you can still enter a team, but under the condition that you are in possession of official match boules, to prevent ‘game forgery’. Taking part in this tournament definitely counts above winning! 😊 You can register via OnTip.

May 28, 2025 - That a tournament does not necessarily have to be very large in terms of the number of participating teams to still be entertaining was proved once again with the ‘Bossche summer night games’. With 12 doubles teams, it was a cosy event where everyone had time for everyone else. A social moment enhanced precisely by the small scale. Nice to see how nicely people can get along! 😊

Apart from conviviality, there was not much else to win. Only three pre-drawn matches were played, a small lottery, so participating was more important than winning. Contrary to what was stated on the poster, the games were not played on time but simply up to 13 points.

After the last match, the doubles team Cas Schellekens/Sam Timmermans came out on top with 3 wins and 27 points. Second were Xander Steijns and Niek Buskop with 3 wins, 21 points. Third place went to Antoon van Mil and Hans van Woerkum with 2 wins, 9 points. The last doubles team to win prices were Peter Timmermans and Mario Blom, 2 wins, 7 points.

May 21, 2025 - After days of beautiful weather, it was nevertheless very chilly at the end of the afternoon due to a strong wind. In consultation with organiser Franz Pieper Oporto, it was therefore decided to play the matches of the Enexis departmental outing in the tent halls. It was a first test for our association as never before had an external company played there. But, just like on the association nights when games were played in the tent halls, things turned out naturally and everything went in good order and a lot of fun was had. 😊

The Enexis employees played two mixed matches, each match with both different teammates and opponents. Despite the relaxed atmosphere, there was some ‘electricity’ here and there (but what do you want, Enexis hey! 😉), as people were very keen to win against each other. In the end, of course, only one could win and that was Wouter Lenders. He managed to win both games with 8 balance points. He received a nice price from co-organiser Laura Lammers.

May 18, 2025 - After the official opening with the ‘hot shots’ two days earlier, it was now the turn of ‘ordinary citizens’ to get acquainted with the temporary indoor accommodation as well as the association members of Pétanque Union Bois le Duc during the ‘Open tent event’ It was a pleasant afternoon that started with thanks to two important volunteers, Chairman Antoon van Mil and Accommodation Manager Johan de Koning.

From the hands of Inge Boonzaaijer, Antoon van Mil received a voucher for a round trip through De Biesbosch, also a 3-hour trip (including lunch, coffee and/or tea) similar to the voucher Johan de Koning received two days earlier, as a thank-you for his broad commitment to the association. The voucher was offered to him by P.U. Bois le Duc 2, the team to which Inge Boonzaaijer belongs.

Besides the voucher, Antoon van Mil received a hand-painted Fanny from artist Gwenda Kok - Tijl herself. This was still missing from the accommodation but now adorns the front tent hall. Losing 0-13 is thus no longer without consequences. 😊

Super-volunteer Johan de Koning was once again put in the limelight. This time he received a custom-made T-shirt with the appropriate inscription ‘Pétanque King’, a nod to Johan’s love of the game and, of course, his surname (‘Koning’ = ‘King’). The T-shirt was donned with great pride and fitted Johan like a glove.

May 16, 2025 - Alderman Marianne van der Sloot, - together with Secretary Corrie van Mil - de Looijer and Building Committee Chairman John Stohr -, opened the temporary indoor accommodation of Pétanque Union Bois le Duc, which consists of two tent halls of 12 by 8 meters each. They did so with big smiles and by throwing a large boule made of styrofoam into one of the tent halls.

After the opening ceremony, a number of association members were put in the limelight. From the hands of the Secretary, Johan de Koning received a voucher for a 3-hour round trip in De Biesbosch (including lunch, coffee and/or tea), selflessly sponsored by Rederij Rivierenland. This because he put so much time and energy into the construction of the temporary indoor accommodation. Building Committee Chairman John Stohr was thanked for his efforts so far and received a nice burgundy package from Treasurer Ruud van Noort.

More than twenty association members helped to create the temporary indoor accommodation. As a result, Pétanque Union Bois le Duc now has six indoor pétanque courts, and another sporting meeting place has been created in ‘s‑Hertogenbosch!

May 14, 2025 - The first stage of the realisation of a private outdoor storage area has been set: the pavement from the centre aisle of the pétanque facility to beyond the existing storage containers has been constructed. This is where the storage area will be placed.

Later, at the back and almost against the hedge on the fencing, a composite log cabin will be installed in which our association can store its stuff. This will eliminate the need to walk inside every time as everything is within easy reach.

May 11, 2025 - In exactly one week, i.e. on Sunday, May 18^th 2025, Pétanque Union Bois le Duc will open its accommodation to anyone interested in the game/sport of ‘pétanque’ but also in the brand-new temporary indoor accommodation our association has realised.

During the ‘Open tent event’, everyone is welcome to come and admire the two tent halls but, above all, to meet our fine association members.

So, be welcome in 's-Hertogenbosch! 🙂

May 10, 2025 - Twenty participants took to the pétanque courts of Pétanque Union Bois le Duc to compete for Bossche bollen (chocolate bulbs filled with whipped cream), selflessly sponsored by Bakery Van Keulen. They all played three mixed matches where each time there were both different fellow players and opponents on the court. Bossche bollen were up for grabs for the best 10 players.

After three fanatical but equally enjoyable rounds of play, Hans van Woerkum emerged victorious, just like in the previous edition of the ‘Bossche bollenmix’. He managed to win three games with an average of almost 9 plus points per game (3 wins, 26 points). From the hands of Secretary Corrie Van Mil - de Looijer, he received a large box of Bossche bollen. Surprisingly second was Paul Lucas with 3 wins and 25 points. Marty van der Burgt finished third, she also managed to win all her matches but with 22 points.

May 4, 2025 - The next ‘Bossche bollen mix’ is coming up and will take place on Saturday, May 10^th. Individual participation is possible and a playing licence is not required, anyone can join.

Three matches are played with different teammates and opponents each time. Boules are plentiful and, above all, free to borrow. The best ten participants will receive delicious Bossche bollen (chocolate bulbs filled with whipped cream), selflessly sponsored by Bakery Van Keulen.

The entry fee is € 3,- and registration is possible on site from 10:30 AM. The first game starts at 11:00 AM.

Note: since recently, P.U. Bois le Duc has six indoor boules courts at its disposal. So weather or no weather, the 'Bossche bollen mix' always goes on!

May 4, 2025 - Living in a democracy is mostly taken for granted by many of us. Yet many things such as freedom of speech, participation in decision-making, protection of fundamental rights, equal opportunities for all (regardless of background, gender or belief), freedom of the press/free access to information but also overall peace and stability are under increasing pressure, potentially threatening the independent growth of the individual. The freedom and autonomy of a democracy contribute greatly to a fulfilling and, above all, independent life, something we strive for so much precisely in the Netherlands. Around us, a lot is happening, too much actually …:

·       The war between Ukraine and Russia is a major source of tension leading to sabotage, cyber attacks and widespread disinformation with Russia and the West increasingly viewing each other as enemies.

·       China seeks technological and economic dominance and is working closely with Russia to reduce the West’s influence. This includes espionage and cyber attacks targeting critical sectors such as semiconductors and biotechnology.

·       In the Middle East, the conflict between Hamas and Israel continues unabated. This has led to wider tensions in the region with potential implications for global stability, due to interference from countries such as Lebanon, Yemen and Iran, among others.

·       It is not only driven by expansionism or war that the number of digital threats is rising sharply. The criminal sector is also increasingly engaging in digital activities, and since nothing functions without computers/the internet these days, this poses a growing threat to national security and economic stability.

·       The growth of criminal networks poses a growing threat to the rule of law and national security, with violence and intimidation against journalists, lawyers and politicians. The murder of Peter R. de Vries and lawyer Inez Weski, suspected of corruption (Marengo trial), are two of the best‑known but most illustrative examples of this.

Today is May 4^th, the day when we reflect on what it means to be allowed to live in freedom but especially what sacrifices have been and are being made in the past and in the present to be able to continue to live like this ...

At 8:00 PM, we therefore commemorate with one minute’s silence those who fought and are fighting for our freedom, both in the Netherlands and abroad. Fighting for freedom is much more than taking up a weapon and can be done in many ways, depending on the context, the goals and the means available. Some ways to fight are:

·       Organising peaceful and therefore non-violent protests, rallies and marches to stand up for rights and freedoms.

·       Engage in dialogue and cooperation with opponents or those in power to reach peaceful solutions.

·       Supporting (political) movements or parties that promote freedom or becoming active in politics yourself.

·       Informing people about their rights and how to protect them, often through campaigns, classes or publications.

·       Using legal means and the legal system to challenge unjust laws or force changes.

·       Cultural expressions: art, music and literature are often used to spread ideas about freedom and justice.

·       Providing an active defence in the event of repression or invasion, for example. Involve direct actions, from clandestine networks to armed resistance.

·       Application of technology. In modern times, technology is used to circumvent censorship, disseminate information and build networks of like-minded people.

Fighting for freedom often requires courage, determination and solidarity. It can start at the individual level but often cooperation leads to broader impact. Together, we make the world (a little bit) more beautiful! 😊

Tomorrow is May 5^th, Liberation Day. The day when we celebrate our acquired freedoms, by organising joyous celebrations and events.

Everyone experiences and celebrates freedom in his or her own way. No matter how you celebrate it, make it a beautiful and loving day, whether you do so in company or choose to do so alone. Besides the joy, try to put into perspective that freedom is not a given which makes us vigilant that freedom does not slip away from us unnoticed.

On Liberation Day, our association is not open and this also applies to other holidays. We are closed to give our volunteers some rest too because, as with any association, it usually comes down to a handful of people. For the record, we hereby repeat these days, you will also find them in the Internal Regulations. We are closed on the following days:

April 29, 2025 - Copilot gave our Facebook editor a bit of a heads-up. This was because he was simply at a loss for words for what one of our super-volunteers achieved again today! 🤐

The question he asked Copilot was this:

“Write a very short text on why volunteers are not taken for granted.”

The underlying reason for this line of questioning is, - and this is a broad social trend -, that seemingly more and more association members seem to think it is only normal that all sorts of things happen at an association just like in, say, a gym. One drops the sports bag, goes to exercise (because everything is taken care of) and then one walks out the door again (that thought). 👈🏻

Copilot gave this brilliant answer:

“Volunteers are not taken for granted because their commitment comes from personal dedication and passion, not obligation. They offer their time and energy often without financial reward, while providing crucial support to communities and organisations. Their value is enormous, but their presence demands recognition, appreciation and support.”

Well, the super-volunteer in question can hereby get that recognition, appreciation and support with the publication of the photos of the footbridges he created between the pavement and the tent halls. What a fantastic effort with a truly professional result, as if the footbridges were bought that way. No, this is all handiwork. Really so cool!!! 🎉🥳🎉

The construction of the footbridges has created a natural walking route into the tent halls, with no extra elevations to trip over. In fact, they run from the pavement to over the water and boules retaining wall in the tent halls. This leaves only one up/down step which significantly reduces the risk of tripping. 👍🏻

April 28, 2025 - Inclusiveness is one of the core values of our association. No matter who you are and what your background is: at Pétanque Union Bois le Duc, you are welcome! 🙂

Precisely to promote inclusiveness, we invariably throw up a boule together at the start of each game after which the games are assigned. This way, everyone can play with also against everyone else and we avoid ‘cliques’.

April 25, 2025 - The primary purpose of the tent halls was of course to be able to play indoors regardless of weather conditions, this to increase the continuity of the association with the underlying aim of increasing the number of association members. The secondary but almost equally important goal was to obtain a dispensation from the Dutch Pétanque Association (NJBB) to be allowed to handle the National Pétanque Competition in-house with effect from season 2025-2026. This dispensation was obtained this week! 🥳

Pétanque Union Bois le Duc has two competition teams. Due to limited indoor space, these now play at home every four weeks so that the team playing at home at that time has access to both tent halls. A playing surface of 11.5 by 6.3 meters is then created in each tent hall. This means that in the doubles round, two doubles teams play in one tent hall, the third doubles match then plays in the other tent hall. In the triples round, one match is played per tent hall, in other words, the entire playing surface of 11.5 by 6.3 metres is then available per match.

No formal dispensation has been obtained for the distance of the throwing circle: it must still be regulationally placed one meter from an obstacle. The obstacle in our tent halls is the black water and boules retaining wall. On regular playing days, our association applies that both the throwing circle and the but must be at least 50 centimeters from the loss lines. In consultation with and after approval of the NPC opponent, the distance of throwing circle at 50 centimeters from the loss lines is still applied (otherwise the regulation distance as mentioned earlier applies).

April 21, 2025 - Both tent halls are ready for use. Now let’s first play for a while and see what teething problems we have to solve. By the time it gets cold, we need to experiment with a hot‑air gas cannon anyway.

April 20, 2025 - Also on Easter Sunday, work continues as usual. Today, for instance, the six scoreboards were installed, three in each tent hall. Our Chairman made a sort of AI impression of it as the logo (unfortunately) does not appear like that on the tent canvas. 😉

April 19, 2025 - “Shall I make a short film report of the construction of the tent halls?”, Fons Brenninkmeyer asked our Chairman Antoon van Mil. “Yes, of course: what a cool idea!”, was his enthusiastic response. No sooner said than done and association member Fons set to work to turn the digitally documented hard work of the volunteers of Pétanque Union Bois le Duc into a nice cinematic piece. And how!!! 😊

It is therefore with GREAT PRAISE that Pétanque Union Bois le Duc, - in collaboration with Macabre Production -, presents this magnificent cinematic masterpiece! 🥳🎥

April 15, 2025 - As of this month, the Dutch pétanque scene has gained a unique location. With the realisation of two storm-proof tent halls, each measuring 12 by 8 meters and with a playing height of 3.6 meters under the ridge beams, Pétanque Union Bois le Duc has created six indoor courts, on the way to its ultimate dream: a permanent pétanque hall.

You are of course always welcome to come and have a look but ... Then why not combine your visit directly with a sports performance!? 😊

The first option is to participate in the ‘Bossche doubles’, the first in a series of three stand-alone tournaments taking place on Sunday, May 4^th next. With a tight system, - three preliminary rounds in time and then a shuffle to an A and B tournament with direct elimination -, you are guaranteed at least four matches and above all: lots of game fun!

A little less competitive but just as entertaining are the ‘Bossche summer night games’. These too are three stand-alone tournaments on Wednesday evenings. You play three pre-selected matches, so participating is more important than winning!

Should you still just want to come and have a look at our brand-new indoor courts, you can do so on Sunday, May 18th. April 12, 2025 - With the brand-new indoor accommodation (6 indoor courts) of Pétanque Union Bois le Duc in the background, the first ‘Bossche bollenmix’ of 2025 took place. Some 22 participants took part in this event sponsored by Bakery Van Keulen. They all played three mix matches where each time there were both different fellow players and opponents on the pitch.

After three fanatical but equally entertaining rounds of play, Hans van Woerkum emerged as the convincing winner. He managed to win three games with an average of 10 plus points per game (3 wins, 30 points). From the hands of Secretary Corrie Van Mil - de Looijer, he received a large box of Bossche bollen (chocolate bulbs filled with whipped cream). An equally honourable place was for Tiny Janssen - van Berkel from Ammerzoden, she too managed to win three matches but with 24 points. Henk van Helvoirt closed the top three with 3 wins and 24 points as well. Based on the result of the first match, he finished behind Tiny Janssen - van Berkel.

April 3, 2025 - How nice is this ... The last part of the water and boules retaining wall in the front tent hall was finished this afternoon. 🙂

To top it all off, Johan De Koning also fitted all the remaining ground pins of the rear tent hall. That alone is a job that takes a lot of energy, because the pins are 1 meter long and to drive sixteen of them into the ground ‘just like that’ ... Pfff!!! 🤗

All volunteers are worth their weight in gold because every contribution to a larger social whole is very important but this is titanium. What an effort and love for the association! 🥰 Thanks a lot! 🙂

April 1, 2025 - Start of the ‘P.U. Bois le Duc academy’. As in previous years, training sessions will again be provided in 2025. These are free of charge for association members interested in this. The first training session, weather permitting, is scheduled for Tuesday, April 8^th next, starting at 7:15 PM.

The training lasts one hour on average. Following the training, we play an à la mêlee match (mix match) to put what we have learned into practice immediately.

Training takes place with one large group: recreational and competitive players together. This allows participants to learn from each other but also to get to know each other. During the training various topics are covered such as posture, throwing styles and tactics, all this through basic exercises.

The training is accessible to everyone regardless of level (or age!). You will soon notice that your game, and with it your enjoyment of the game, improves by leaps and bounds after some basic training.

April 1, 2025 - Another step further towards the completion of our tent halls. Johan De Koning, Piet Ronnes and Chairman Antoon van Mil placed three-fourths of the water and boules retaining wall in the front tent hall in one evening. This fine result was achieved because Johan had already done a great deal of preliminary work during the day, namely cutting out the trench into which the wall was to be placed. 👈

But as on almost every day when work on the tent halls is in progress, there are some setbacks. For instance, the construction crew discovered that the double socket on the rear LED lighting pole had no power. Pretty handy if you want to connect the tent halls’ LED lights to this. 😐 Of course, this too will be resolved as soon as possible. The contractor concerned has been notified and will do his best to solve the problem as soon as possible.

Thanks to Jeu de Boules association L’Ammerzo, the National Pétanque Competition has already ‘moved’ from Ammerzoden to ‘s-Hertogenbosch. In Ammerzoden, course master Toine Janssen used beautiful magnetic signs bearing the names of the teams from ‘s-Hertogenbosch to indicate which team played on which court. From hands of Chairman Luc Timmers, our Chairman Antoon van Mil received both signs with the aim of placing them in the tent halls of Pétanque Union Bois le Duc. On the instructions of Johan de Koning, the rear tent hall, seen from the association building of s.v. C.H.C., was officially allocated to P.U. Bois le Duc 2 as shown in the photos. 😉

March 31, 2025 - After three years in a row of being very hospitably welcomed by Jeu de Boules association L’Ammerzo in Ammerzoden tonight, - with a sporting encounter between a fine group consisting of a total of 35 players from both Ammerzoden and ‘s‑Hertogenbosch -, an era has come to an end. No longer does Pétanque Union Bois le Duc play in the beautiful hall in Ammerzoden, but from now on the association uses its own temporary indoor accommodation consisting of two tent halls of 12 by 8 metres each (6 covered courts). The National Pétanque Competition will also be played at home in ‘s‑Hertogenbosch starting from season 2025-2026, for which Ammerzoden was also used until now.

The sporting encounter between the two associations consisted of two matches, with one team from Ammerzoden each time facing a team from ‘s‑Hertogenbosch. The players were different each time. The final score was therefore a nice reflection of the conviviality as the top four were evenly divided between the two associations:

1^st: Marcel van Keulen (L'Ammerzo).

2^nd: Corrie Van Mil - de Looijer (P.U. Bois le Duc).

3^rd: Lies de Jong (L'Ammerzo).

4^th: Marco Tijl (P.U. Bois le Duc).

By the way, the numbers 1 to 3 all had 2 wins and 15 points. They were therefore ranked based on the result of the first match.

March 30, 2025 - The preparation of the LED lighting for both tent halls has started and its assembly is quite a job it soon turned out.

In the ‘workshop’ (read: living room) at the home of his mother/our Secretary Corrie Van Mil - de Looijer, our Chairman Antoon van Mil set to work on this job. Soon he was able to ‘bring the light’ as can be seen in the video. 🙂

At the end of the day, after say about 4-5 hours of work, a quarter of the work was completed. So still a bit of plodding on but the result will be dazzling, no doubt about that. 😎

March 29, 2025 - The second team of Pétanque Union Bois le Duc also played its last match of the National Pétanque Competition 2024-2025, also in Ammerzoden and in the 5^th Division. It had to face a very driven PV Amicale Cuijk 2 there. If the team from ‘s-Hertogenbosch were to win, the Cuijk team’s potential chances of promotion would definitely be gone. However, leader PC Doetinchem 2 would then have to lose if the team from Cuijk wanted to be promoted.

P.U. Bois le Duc 2 did its sporting duty by securing a draw (4-4) which almost certainly ended the team from Cuijk’s chances of promotion. A sporting level performance by the team from ‘s‑Hertogenbosch. 👈

March 29, 2025 - The final day of the National Petanque Competition 2024-2025 was concluded in style by P.U. Bois le Duc 1. On match day 14, the team competed in Ammerzoden against PV Mooie Boule 5 from Berlicum.

While Corrie van Mil - de Looijer decided the match in the triples round with a fine shot for 13, this was a game of honour in the final round for the golden duo John Pol and Robin Coolen, whose win was the proverbial icing on the cake. This resulted in an 8-0 win and promotion to the 4^th Division.

Afterwards, the golden duo toasted the 100% score of Robin Coolen who managed to win all his matches, mostly with John Pol. An achievement within a group performance. 👈

March 28, 2025 - The eighth construction day was all about finishing the tarpaulin of the second tent hall: one end still had to be strung. Once again, it turned out that the group of volunteers learned a lot from the first tent hall, because the tarpaulin flew on, so to speak! 🙂

Meanwhile, in the first tent hall, a number of volunteers installed the water and boules retaining wall. A job in itself it turned out but the result is once again fantastic. 🥳

The status quo at the end of construction day 8: both tent halls are fully finished. In the first tent hall, the water and boules retaining wall is already in place and the loss lines have been stretched. The same still needs to be done in the other tent hall, then the LED lighting still needs to be provided in both tent halls. In short, there is still plenty to do! 🥴

March 27, 2025 - Full of courage and familiar with building based on the experience gained with the first tent hall, work began today on finishing the large tarpaulin of the second tent hall. A tough job that required many volunteers. Why can be seen in these videos and the photo of pulling the large tarpaulin over the ridge.

Once again, the result of the day is impressive because not only is the large tarpaulin of the second tent hall finished but also the tarpaulin with the entrance door. What remains is the other front side of the tent hall and then the work is complete as far as the tent halls themselves are concerned.

March 22, 2025 - The penultimate day of the National Pétanque Competition 2024-2025 was extremely successful for both teams of Pétanque Union Bois le Duc. On matchday thirteen, P.U. Bois le Duc 1, in the 5^th Division - Group 5003, met PV Jeu de Bommel 3 in Zaltbommel. P.U. Bois le Duc 2 had to travel far and away to meet Pétanque Club Doetinchem 2, in the 5^th Division - Group 5002.

P.U. Bois le Duc 1 has been unapproachably at the top of the competition table for weeks, so the meeting with PV Jeu de Bommel 3 was a mere formality. Uninhibited by any ‘match stress’, the team, perhaps not always with the best play, played its opponent away completely. It did so by winning all eight games with an average result of 13-5. Next season, P.U. Bois le Duc 1 will be playing in the 4^th Division and will have to step up its proverbial pace to get promoted again.

In Doetinchem, P.U. Bois le Duc 2 performed a true feat against the league leaders, PC Doetinchem 2. With united play, the team from ‘s-Hertogenbosch managed to secure the day’s win by knocking its opponent off the mat with a 5-3 score. With this brilliant victory, the team confidently retains its place in the middle of the 5^th Division - Group 5002 and will play in this class again next season. A great achievement considering the somewhat rough start to the season which was marked by some player changes.

On Saturday, March 29th next, both teams will play for the last time, at home at Bouledrome L’Ammerzo in Ammerzoden. P.U. Bois le Duc 1 will then meet PV Mooie Boule 5 from Berlicum, P.U. Bois le Duc 2 will play against JBV Amicale Cuyk 2. Because P.U. Bois le Duc 2 managed to win from PC Doetinchem 2, the team from Cuijk now has a chance of promotion, so it is up to P.U. Bois le Duc 2 to fulfil their sporting duty against them as well (by winning!).

March 20, 2025 - The sixth day of construction is the last for now. The finishing of the first tent hall is complete and the tarpaulin is all finished. The result is simply stunning and an absolute paragon of our members’ togetherness. 🙂

As some additional ground pegs are yet to arrive from Germany, - this to fix both the first and second tent hall even better -, the tarpaulin of the second tent hall is being waited on. This is because the exercise with the tarpaulin of the first tent hall showed that more hands are needed to get the heavy tarpaulin over the frame. For these reasons, it was decided to wait for the additional materials and in the meantime schedule another workday with sufficient manpower.

The postponement did give our Building Committee Chairman John Stohr and his partner the opportunity to enjoy a sunny terrace in our beautiful city. There he drank a very special beer, by the way. 😉

March 19, 2025 - Day five of the construction of our temporary indoor accommodation was one of great success! With combined efforts, - led by Building Committee Chairman John Stohr -, the first tent hall was sealed today. Unlike building the metal frame, this part of the construction process went almost flawlessly. Thanks to the heavy tarpaulin, the tent hall is now wind- and watertight and finishing work on the interior can begin soon. These include a bumper for the boules, LED lighting, scoreboards and a decking from the entrance to the pavement.

Tomorrow, the last tent hall will be closed after which work can start immediately on clearing the construction site, a job in itself.

Chairman Antoon van Mil, initiator/co-founder of Pétanque Union Bois le Duc, could only say “WOW!!!” to what the club members have achieved together.

Soon, even in bad weather, play can simply continue: what a treat! 🥳🥳🥳

March 17, 2025 - A true wear day, day 4 of the construction of our tent halls. Having learnt the hard way, the construction workers went to work in the morning like a well-oiled production machine. Like some kind of VDL NedCar production line, one arch of the second tent hall flew together like greased lightning. Just brilliant! 🙂

At the start of the day, the builders immediately agreed: today the skeleton of the second tent hall stands! The promise to each other was kept, although some of the builders were running on their proverbial gums towards the end of the day. The honour went to Tessa van Broekhoeven to tighten the last nut on the skeleton of the second tent hall as seen in this video. 🥳.

March 16, 2025 - Day three of construction of the tent halls. Thanks to the lessons learned from the first two days, construction went considerably faster today, thanks to the construction team’s accumulated work experience. 🏠

After another day of diligent work, the builders pulled the proverbial plug around 3:30 PM. A very nice result was achieved: the entire steel structure of the first tent hall stands (like a house)! 🙂

Construction will continue tomorrow, when the assembly of the second tent hall will be started, while the Chairman and the Building Committee Chairman figure out how to attach the tent cloth, and in particular the weave of the ropes that tighten the canvas.

March 15, 2025 - It is brave for an association with no explicit expertise of the matter to decide to ‘casually’ build two tent halls of 12 x 8 metres each, without the help of professionals trained for this purpose. But with good work preparation and, above all, the willingness of volunteers, a lot is possible. So today the construction team once again set to work in good spirits to erect and connect the very tall arches, assembled on the first working day, to form a rigid structure. The height proved enormous and unbridgeable in a safe way using the available rolling scaffold but with some trickery the builders managed to attach the arches together. Time for coffee ... ☕

That a coffee break brings comfort and thus peace and reflection is well known but that it would have such an impact on construction. For over a day, the builders were already walking with their heads in the clouds: “What a cool and enormously high tent hall, we can even play super-high boules!” Fuelled by this euphoria, construction continued diligently. As a result, no one, but no one at all, noticed that the arches were far too high and therefore unmanageable with the current workshop equipment. While discussing the situation during the coffee break, Fons, fuelled by a conversation between Marco and Antoon about the playing height (they thought this would be 3.60 metres under the T-beam but it was now much more), came up with an almost dry remark: “Isn’t there a pipe too much under the arches?” It can’t be true ... 😳

Still in a slight state of denial, the construction team then went outside and what transpired: there was indeed one pipe too many under the arches. The entire construction team spontaneously slapped themselves on the forehead. But again, Cruijf was right: “Every disadvantage has its advantage.” The disadvantage was obvious: the built arches had to be dismantled and that proved to be a time-consuming job given the anchoring with one-metre-long pins. However, the advantage was obvious: now the arches could be connected using the scaffolding because it now did reach the ridge height. 🙂

At the end of the day, two more but lower arch sections were standing, fixed by various connectors and anchored into the ground with the one-metre-long pins. Not only that, the next three arches are already assembled and ready to be put in place tomorrow, with a now practised team. Construction of tent hall one is expected to be completed tomorrow but no later than Monday morning. 👈🏻

March 14, 2025 - Today a group of volunteers, managed by Building Committee Chairman John Stohr, carried out the first work on the tent halls. Johan, Hans, Antoon, Jan, John, Ruud and Antoon prepared the construction site and tried to position the first arch of the first of a total of two tent halls.

Unfortunately, this proved not to be so easy and by early afternoon the work was halted, this due to the departure of a number of people (due to private matters). However, the course of action for tomorrow is clear and if the chosen approach succeeds, the construction crew knows how to proceed. That it really is a HUGE job is now clear. Pfff ...

But as seen in the video below, the atmosphere is good, ‘the troops’ are in the mood. 😉

March 11, 2025 - The results of the survey launched on their own initiative by the team captains of Pétanque Union Bois le Duc addressed to all other NPC team captains are there!

As many as 59.8% of all NPC team captains responded and some of them also forwarded the questionnaire to their team members. A total of 498 NPC players, - about 14.5% of the entire NPC player base -, gave their feedback on a number of questions/statements prepared by the team captains of Pétanque Union Bois le Duc.

Now just hope that the NPC organisation values this input and, - in its wisdom -, does something with it to make our beautiful league even more beautiful! 🙂

March 8, 2025 - On the twelfth day of the National Pétanque Competition 2024-2025, both competition teams of Pétanque Union Bois le Duc played ‘at home’, on the pétanque courts of Jeu de Boules association L’Ammerzo in Ammerzoden. Despite the very nice weather, - the mercury rose to over 20 degrees Celsius(!) -, P.U. Bois le Duc 1 decided to play indoors anyway against PV Wij Liggen 3 from Schijndel. P.U. Bois le Duc 2 chose to play in the sun and did so against PV Le Château 2 from Wijchen.

In the 5^th Division - Group 5003, P.U. Bois le Duc 1 got off to an immediate good start by taking a full win in the first doubles round. With 13-6, 13-5 and 13-10 respectively, it immediately gave its opponent from Schijndel the slip: 3-0. The subsequent triples round was also won in full (13-5, 13-5), giving the team from ‘s-Hertogenbosch a 5-0 lead and putting the day’s victory in its pocket. In the third and also doubles round a repeat of moves as three more wins (13-1, 13-6, 13-7) brought the final score to 8-0. P.U. Bois le Duc 1 had already been unofficially promoted to the 4^th Division last week but honoured its leading position with this win.

In the 5^th Division - Group 5002, P.U. Bois le Duc 2 may have picked the wrong matchday against PV Le Château 4. The team from Wijchen consists entirely of women and to play against them on International Women’s Day proved to be quite a challenge. Despite a fine start in the first doubles round (6-13, 13-4, 13-6) and a 2-1 lead, the tide quickly turned for the team from ‘s_-Hertogenbosch in the triples round. By winning once (13-12) and losing once (4-13), the ladies from Wijchen pulled the game back to their own. With a 3-2 score on the scoreboard, P.U. Bois le Duc 2 now had to win at least two out of three doubles matches of the final round for the day’s victory. However, the ‘girlpower’ proved to do its job as the away team cashed in the full round with three wins: 11-13, 9-13 and 8-13. As a result, P.U. Bois le Duc 2 lost the day 3-5 but nevertheless maintains its position in the 5^th Division.

On Saturday, March 22^nd P.U. Bois le Duc 1 will play ‘away’ against PV Jeu de Bommel 3 in Zaltbommel. P.U. Bois le Duc 2 will then travel to Pétanqueclub Doetinchem.

March 8, 2025 - International Women’s Day: equality as the key to peace and balance

In a world under high pressure, today we celebrate International Women’s Day, a day dedicated globally to the struggle for equal rights and opportunities for women. Equality between men and women (as well as LGBTQIA+ people) means giving everyone, regardless of gender and orientation, equal opportunities in education, work and social participation. In countries where women have equal rights, we see that societies are more stable, prosperous and peaceful. When women are economically and socially empowered, the whole society benefits.

Why is equality so important?

Research shows that gender equality helps reduce conflict. When women are actively involved in decision-making and peace processes, outcomes are more sustainable and violence is more often prevented. Equality is therefore not only a moral aspiration, but also a strategic means of promoting a harmonious world.

What can we do?

Everyone can contribute to a more equal world. This can be done by raising awareness, fighting discriminatory practices and supporting women (but also LGBTQIA+ people) in their ambitions. Whether it is about equal pay, fair distribution of care responsibilities or breaking stereotypes: every step counts! By accepting each other as we are and showing mutual understanding, we all contribute to a more beautiful world.

On this International Women’s Day, we reflect on the progress made and the road ahead. Equality is the key to a peaceful and balanced world, and we all benefit from it.

February 27, 2025 - During a well-attended General Members’ Meeting, association elder Diny Buise - van Roosmalen was put in the limelight as a thank-you for her activities as a member of the Love & Sorrow Committee. After very warm words from Chairman Antoon van Mil, Diny was thanked for her unbridled dedication to the ups and downs of our association members, even during the moments of severe setbacks in her private life. From the hands of Secretary Corrie van Mil ‑ de Looijer, Diny received a bouquet of flowers, just as colourful as herself. Diny, thank you for the good care and we will see you on the pétanque courts! 😊

February 23, 2025 - Enigine: quality work deserves quality maintenance

In its search for a reliable energy transition partner, our association at the time very consciously looked for a company that values quality, even after the realisation of an installation. The fact that Pétanque Union Bois le Duc made the right choice here by eventually selecting Barneveld-based Enigine for the realisation of its LED sports field lighting became apparent recently when we were unexpectedly confronted with a malfunction.

After noticing the malfunction, Enigine was immediately contacted. Their response was adequate and the Barneveld-based company immediately called in one of its preferred partners, VMB from Hengelo. Like Enigine, VMB is completely at home in sustainable sports field lighting as well as the entire energy transition of sports clubs. With great skill, and to the satisfaction of our Chairman, VMB meticulously tracked down and fixed the malfunction.

In short: with Enigine and VMB, you can be sure that you can count on craftsmanship and a sustainable solution. Thank you for your commitment and expertise! 😊

February 22, 2025 - After a very mediocre performance a fortnight ago, both P.U. Bois le Duc competition teams recovered this Saturday on the courts of Ammerzoden-based Jeu de Boules association L’Ammerzo. On the eleventh playing day of the National Pétanque Competition 2024‑2025, P.U. Bois le Duc 1 played against home club L’Ammerzo 1. On the courts next door, P.U. Bois le Duc 2 played against the third team of Jeu de Boules club Plop from Uden.

In the regional derby between ‘s-Hertogenbosch and Ammerzoden, things got very fanatical at times. The Ammerzodeners had nothing left to lose but the players from P.U. Bois le Duc 1 had to win, after losing on the previous competition day, to secure promotion from the 5^th to the 4^th Division. The enthusiasm of the Bossche players was high and in the first doubles round, the tone was immediately set by winning three broadly: 13-5, 13-2 and 13-3. This result meant the team needed to win only two of the five remaining matches. In the triples round, they did not succeed immediately (13-7, 3-13), but in the last and also doubles round, the full amount was gained again with three wins: 13-2, 13-2 and 13-7. Final score: 7-1. Because the competition’s number two, Zaltbommel-based PV Jeu de Bommel, failed to win out in Wijchen, P.U. Bois le Duc 1 has unofficially been promoted to the 4^th Division. The team from ‘s-Hertogenbosch is now four match days won away from the number two with only three competition days left. The team can thus no longer be overtaken and promoted for the second year in a row.

P.U. Bois le Duc 2 got off to a somewhat difficult start against Plop 3 by losing two of the three doubles matches of the first round: 7-13, 13-12 and 8-13. So there was immediate work to do for the second team from ‘s-Hertogenbosch. In the triples round, they played better but won only once (7-13, 13-8), bringing the intermediate score to 2-3 in favour of the team from Uden. So in the final doubles round, P.U. Bois le Duc 2 had to win twice for a tie and three times for the day’s victory. The team members outdid themselves and showed great resilience by winning three times convincingly. With 13-3, 13-7 and 13-9 respectively, the day’s victory was secured in the last minute. Final score: 5-3. With this victory, the team definitely maintains its place in the 5^th Division.

On Saturday, March 8^th P.U. Bois le Duc 1 will play ‘at home’ in Ammerzoden against PV Wij Liggen from Schijndel. P.U. Bois le Duc 2 will also play there but against PV Le Château from Wijchen.

February 8, 2025 - On the tenth match day of the National Pétanque Competition 2024-2025, both P.U. Bois le Duc 1 and P.U. Bois 2 played away in Nijmegen, in the beautiful jeu de boules hall of their opponent De Valkatties. P.U. Bois le Duc 1 faced De Valkatties 4: the so far unapproachable number one of the 5^th Division - Group 5003 against the number four. P.U. Bois le Duc 2 faced De Valkatties 1: the number five of the 5^th Division - Group 5002 against the number three. The home-playing teams of De Valkatties had cleverly prepared for their opponents, this by making the top layer of their pétanque courts almost soaking wet. This is because a very hard but wet playing surface with little gravel makes it less easy to shoot a ball away in a targeted manner as a short-shot ball simply jumps over the ball to be shot away. This resulted in surprising but otherwise very fair results.

Whereas P.U. Bois le Duc 1 played its Nijmegen opponent relatively easily during the home match (6-2), this time it struggled to stay in the race at all. The Valkatties placed their boules more than excellently and extremely consistently at the jack (the small target ball), giving the hitherto 23 times(!) in a row unbeaten team from ‘s-Hertogenbosch an immediate edge. Two out of three games of the first doubles round were lost by a wide margin, resulting in a 1-2 deficit. In the subsequent triples round too, the tide could not be turned: one win and one loss resulted in 2-3. To win, all efforts would have to be made to win the three doubles matches of the final round. Despite frantic efforts to do so, the first team, against a still more than excellent opponent, did not succeed. Indeed, they lost twice, defeating the Boschians for the first time in a long time: 3-5. With that, their glorious run of wins comes to an end. Despite the loss, the road to promotion to the 4^th Division is wide open.

On the courts next to the first team, P.U. Bois le Duc 2 did not fare much better. As if both teams were copying each other’s scoring pattern, the second team of ‘s-Hertogenbosch also lost two out of three games in the first doubles round, albeit narrowly: 1-2. In the triples round, it was even by one win and one loss: 2-3. Like the first team, P.U. Bois le Duc 2 had to finish the second doubles round successfully to get at least a draw or even the win. Again, only one win from three games so a 3-5 loss went into the books for P.U. Bois le Duc 2 as well.

On Saturday, February 22^nd P.U. Bois le Duc 1 will play ‘at home’ in Ammerzoden against JdB association L’Ammerzo. P.U. Bois le Duc 2 will also play in Ammerzoden then but against JdB club Plop from Uden.

January 26, 2025 - Training will again be provided to the association members of Pétanque Union Bois le Duc in 2025. Under Head Coach Hans van Woerkum, training will take place every fortnight on Wednesday evenings during the warmer months of the year. From 2025, Hans will be assisted not only by his brother Rini, but also by Pierre Brands. Pierre and his wife Truus have joined our association on January 1^st.

Pierre will support the Van Woerkum brothers with his extensive and long-standing knowledge of giving pétanque lessons. As a certified NJBB trainer (PTA), he knows the tricks of the trade and has an extensive and diverse range of training exercises at his disposal. We thank Pierre for his help and look forward to the renewed training sessions! 😊

January 25, 2025 - The ninth day of play of the National Pétanque Competition 2024-2025 was experienced completely differently by the teams of Pétanque Union Bois le Duc, both playing in the 5^th Division.

For P.U. Bois le Duc 1, the last six competition days are a mere formality. Indeed, the team is virtually untouchable at the top of the competition table, with a big points lead over the rest. Out in Wijchen, it only had very sporting opposition to PV Le Château. It was 7-1 in favour of the team from ‘s-Hertogenbosch, who with this resounding victory almost certainly promote to the 4^th Division.

P.U. Bois le Duc 1 is unapproachably at the top of the rankings of the 5^th Division - Group 5003.

P.U. Bois le Duc 2 on the other hand, before the start of the competition day the number four on the ranking list, had to win from frontrunner Pétanqueclub Montferland to keep a slight chance of promotion. On the courts of PC Doetinchem, the home away-from-home base for the team from Montferland, the first round of play in doubles form started in good spirits and high motivation. With two narrow losses (11-13, 10-13) and one win (13-4), P.U. Bois le Duc 1 immediately faced a 1-2 deficit. In itself no problem, as the team’s strong strength is the triples round, a game form that requires more team consultation and feeling. It is precisely then, because of the good team energy, that the team from ‘s-Hertogenbosch excels. This time the strong weapon failed to materialise as both games were lost, leaving 1-4 on the scoreboard. So in the last and also doubles round, all games had to be won to get the least possible, a draw. P.U. Bois le Duc 2 came even closer by winning two out of three games: 6-13, 13-1, 13-11. Final score: 3-5. With this victory, PC Montferland strengthened its leading position and P.U. Bois le Duc 2 saw its promotion chances to the 4^th Division slowly evaporate.

On Saturday, February 8^th both P.U. Bois le Duc 1 and P.U. Bois le Duc 2 will play in Nijmegen, away against De Valkatties 2 and De Valkatties 1 respectively.

January 12, 2025 - We all enjoy playing the National Pétanque Competition and we are of course grateful that it is organised for us, by only a very limited number of (NJBB) people. Just think of it to satisfy all those critical boulers. For that, our compliments in any case. 😊

Still, there are always things that could be different or better. That is why the team captains of Pétanque Union Bois le Duc want to take stock of what you, - the other team captains but also the players of your teams -, think about this. January 11, 2025 - The eighth day of the National Petanque Competition 2024-2025 for both competition teams of Pétanque Union Bois le Duc took place at home, in the hall of the Ammerzoden based Jeu de Boules association L’Ammerzo. In the absence of its own indoor accommodation, the association of ‘s-Hertogenbosch is forced to play here. Playing indoors is an obligation in this competition. P.U. Bois le Duc 1, the unbeaten leader in the 5^th Division - Group 5003 played against PV Mooie Boule 3 from Berlicum. In the 5^th Division - Group 5002, P.U. Bois le Duc 2 faced PV Le Château 1 from Wijchen. Each team played eight matches over three rounds of play. The first round three doubles matches, the second round two triples matches and the third round again doubles. It promised to be an exciting day of play.

P.U. Bois le Duc 2 had something to win against PV Le Château 1, as this team was right above the team from ‘s-Hertogenbosch in the rankings. So they had to perform to move up the rankings. With great team spirit and full of confidence, the first doubles round started. However, the players of P.U. Bois le Duc 2 did not succeed in overpowering their opponent right away, quite the opposite in fact as there was an immediate 0‑3 deficit in the books (11‑13, 6‑13, 7‑13). So the triples round had to be won to stay in the race. Especially in this form of play, high team spirit proved decisive as two wins (13‑12 and 13‑8) restored the tension with a 2-3 interval. The home team seemed to be unleashed as in the final doubles round they continued the blessing by winning twice (13‑11, 13‑2). This assured it of a draw anyway. Should the third doubles team manage to win its match it would clinch the day’s victory. Unfortunately, this proved to be just the proverbial ‘bridge too far’, as despite excellent play, coming back from a big deficit, the match was narrowly lost 10‑13. A draw proved the highest achievable but, with six competition encounters to go, P.U. Bois le Duc 2 is still in the race for overall victory and promotion to the 4^th Division.

P.U. Bois le Duc 1’s encounter with the extremely sporty and sociable players of PV Mooie Boule 3 from Berlicum was very one-sided. The first team from ‘s-Hertogenbosch, unbeaten so far, did what it had to do, so to speak, by winning 7‑1 against their opponent and thus maintained/strengthened its leading position in the 5^th Division - Group 5003. Promotion to the 4^th Division is almost impossible to miss for the team.

On Saturday, January 25^th, P.U. Bois le Duc 1 will play in Wijchen, away against PV Le Château 3. P.U. Bois le Duc 2 will then visit Pétanque Club Montferland 1 in Doetinchem, the number one in the current ranking.

January 1, 2025 - First of all, like everyone else, we wish you a healthy and, above all, happy 2025! 🥂 That in this time full of (inter)national challenges, we can continue to find the time and love for each other to (hopefully) get closer to each other and make the world just a little bit more beautiful. ❤️

This as a precursor to a permanent pétanque hall, about which we are currently looking at the possibilities with the Municipality of ‘s‑Hertogenbosch.
