About ‘Pétanque in your Neighbourhood’
In the year leading up to the European Championships Pétanque 2022 on the Bossche Parade in 2021, pétanque tournaments were organised in four neighbourhood in ‘s-Hertogenbosch. One tournament per neighbourhood for four weeks with the final day in the garden of the Sint Jans Cathedral. The aim of the programme was and is to promote social contacts, offer the opportunity to forge new friendships, fight loneliness but also get (especially) the elderly moving. All this through the low-threshold game of pétanque.
In 2022, the programme ‘Boules in your Neighbourhood’ was successfully extended to the six largest cities in Noord-Brabant. Besides capital ‘s-Hertogenbosch, the programme visited Breda, Helmond, Eindhoven, Roosendaal and Tilburg. The final in that year was played at the European Championship grounds on the Bossche Parade, the day before the start of the international tournament. Also in 2023, 2024 and 2025, the programme was organised again in different places with great success.

In 2026, pétanque activities will be organised in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, in four consecutive weeks, on the local court of three different neighbourhoods and the accommodation of Pétanque Union Bois le Duc. Participation will be individual and, above all, free of charge. Everyone plays with but also against everyone else, as each other’s equal. This makes it easy to make contact with each other, in a completely non-committal way. Oh yes, there are plenty of boules available to borrow free of charge, so there is nothing to stop you taking part! 😉
The organisation
The organisation of ‘Boules in your Neighbourhood 2026’ in ‘s‑Hertogenbosch is in the capable hands of three leading members of Pétanque Union Bois le Duc.
Jan Arnold
Their personal goal, besides promoting social contact, is to spread knowledge of the game of pétanque and their association. Together with several volunteers, Jan, Lex and Paul form the point of contact on the local pétanque court during ‘Boules in your Neighbourhood 2026’.
Calendar & locations
Games will be played in three different neighbourhoods for four weeks, followed by a closing day on the courts of Pétanque Union Bois le Duc in the De Schutskamp neighbourhood. You can participate for free in any neighbourhood and as often as you like! You may also participate in the closing day. Boules can be borrowed free of charge on all days.

How do I register?
Using the register buttons on this website, you can register yourself for free participation in ‘Boules in your Neighbourhood 2026’ with no obligation. You can play every day in every neighbourhood, no problem. You can also take part in the closing day on the courts of Pétanque Union Bois le Duc in De Schutskamp.
Feel free to bring one or more guests but please remember to register them too via the registration form, so we know exactly who is coming. 😉
The registration process is very simple. All you have to do is fill in your name, email address and phone number and then tick where and when you want to participate. So super simple! 😊
So, don’t wait any longer: register and participate!!!
Not entirely unimportant! Even if ‘Boules in your Neighbourhood 2026’ has already started, you can still just register in between: so you are never late and always welcome!
Game rules
It is nice to know the rules of pétanque beforehand, because then you can play with confidence, avoid misunderstandings and the game runs more smoothly. You then know exactly when it is your turn, how you score points and what you can and cannot do. This makes the game not only fairer, but more importantly more fun for everyone.
